Silly cob rolled next to the fence and has manged to pull half her chestnut off her hind leg. Its still 1.2 attached, but the rest is pulled off so close that it is weeping blood, not actively bleeding. Any ideas how to treat this. We have cold hosed it and then swished it out with a hibiscrub solution,m also put some antifly/anti bac ointment around the area (but not in the wound). Cant put anything into the wound.

Doesnt seem to be in pain, but then never does.
I thought if we hose and hibiscrub twice a day for a few days the attched bit might come away so we can hose/clean and slap on anti bac cream. I am worried that she could get nasties under the 'flap' and get an infection.

What would you do?

My boy managed to do this a couple of years ago. We just kept it as clean as possible with salt water and asked the farrier to nip the loose bit off so he couldn't catch it again while it was healing.

Ahh yes , good old saline solution. I think we need to get it off now so will try giviing it a realy good soak tommorow and a little pull to see if we can get the loose bit off. whilst it is still there I am worried about it getting infected.

My boy did this the other week. His chestnut came off before it was ready to and was bleeding a bit. I cleaned it up and sprayed it with purple spray and then left it alone. It has healed up fine. :)
