Ok, so loads of people I've know that are equine have always had opinions on chestnut mares that they are stubborn and moody, but worse than any other mare. I know its a matter of opinion. I have a 2 year old chestnut sec D mare/filly and at first she was a handful, but then she started to come round and trust me, so I was starting to stick up for chestnuts when people expressed their opinion.
However! This morning she was the worst she has ever been! The herd now have both sides of the field open to graze in, so lots and lots of new grass! I went to get her, she happily walked until she couldn't see any more horses, then she decided she would continuously shove me and try spin to get back to them. This went on for a while, in the end there was a very moody mare that took 2 of us to get her in! She then plodded up to the stables looking as unhappy as possible, and would not stop fidgeting when she was in, she didn't even enjoy her groom which she usually does. All she wanted was to be back in the field!
Anyone have any stories to share on their chestnut mares?!
