I love my chestnut mare, she's an absolute little firecracker :)

people have always said to me to avoid chestnuts as they have a fiery temper specially one's with four white feet ...... has anyone found this ? or is still a rather silly question :)) lol

Chestnut, Welsh and 4 white feet....

Pony of a lifetime.

I've got a four month old chestnut filly. She has already perfected the art of face pulling and glaring at humans and dogs with her ears back in an attempt to look fierce and moody. She just makes us laugh!

Her dam, a chesnut mare with flaxen mane and tail is a real sweetie, very kind and gentle, so I don't know where little madam gets if from.

I have a chestnut mare and wouldnt swap her for the world. She is quite highly strung but has never had a moody day in her life!! Unlike her owner lol

i have 3 chestnut mares ! They are all fantastic.
Ones ID x TB 3 white socks - my horse of a lifetime. 1 is my mares foal now 5months old, and the image of her mummy, wonderful kind loving temperament
Ones even a TB  shes my daughters first horse.

You cant beat gingers !!

My second pony was a chestnut mare and she was amazing. She did everything - showing, handy pony, dressage, SJ XC, gymkhana games and won cups for them all. At the age of 23 she won the cup for the horse with the most points in the Riding Club. She was 14.2 and I am 5ft 10 and was 28 at the time. She was quite whizzy and did jog but was never any different and I would not call her mareish. In fact she had an amazing ability to change her behaviour depending on who was on her and the local RDA group borrowed her for the bigger children and loved her. My current mare although black is a larger reincarnation of her.

My OH's new "lady" is a TB x ID 5 year old, she has no white except for a very thin blaze and so far she's been more than willing and has only been spooky at things you'd expect a 5 year old to react to. Personally I don't believe the chesnut mare thing! :p

my mare is a beaut aswel, extremely soppy, & considering
I've only had her 3 months, & I've managed to back her in this time aswel I'd say she's doing GREAT :))

When I brought her had so many people say oh god a chestnut, then omg it's a mare aswel, but I have never actually come across anyone who has had real problems with them :/

I went to a saddlers & showed the man a pic of my horse & straight away he said ' bet you've got your hands full there, she'll challenge you every step you take' then started reaping off how he has worked round horses all his life & can read the signs when he see's them :/ :/

I have 2 chestnut mares, both thoroughbred ex racers :0
They both have their own quirky characters but wouldn't change anything about them!
In fact my 13 year old daughter has done so well with the baby (rising 6) I'm considering letting her take her to pony club!! :)))

Ive always ended up with chestnuts. Currently have a chestnut mare who can live up to the stereotype but its oart of the reason I got her :D

Moody? Yep.

Unpredictable? Yep.

Hard work? Yep.

Bloody gorgeous, loving, rewarding, talented????? Hell yeah!!!

Gingers ROCK!!!!! (but check the glint in that eye out )

And not a white sock in sight! :D

Both my kids ponies are chestnut mares with four whites. Lovely ponies, do their jobs well, one can be a bit moody but nothing spectacular. Both were seriously cheap though for what they are just because of the colour.

Faracat - your horsey looks very similar to mine :) nice to see there is a fair few chestnut lovers out there. They certainly keep you entertained & on your toes :)))

My chestnut mare with 4 white socks is the best horse I have ever had.. She's the ultimate pony !! Just retired her now but she will live out her days with me :) people don't like mares as a general.. I have friends that won't buy mares.. I have 2 and they are the most lovely ponies and far less to handle then most geldings I know xxxx

went looking for anything but a tb...what did i come home with???Oh yes a chestnut tb mare ex ptp, and very ginge she is hence my forum name ;) - LOVE HER! yes shes a little dippy and quirky but never nasty, moody, overly silly when riding, and she is always willing to please , wouldnt swap her for the world!! :D

my farrier says he has more problems with bay mares so ner :p

We have a 13 h sec b chestnut mare with the white feet also.Shes moody, hormonal (seasons through the winter )........forward, sharp , broncs , bucks , and tanks around her field all the time , swings her head , has tons of attitude. But has been the best pony my daughter has ever ridden, shes so clever , jumps like a dream ..clears 3ft ........schools like a Lusitano........whenever shes turned out ....she immeadiately puts on a show for the other horses in the neighbouring field....it usually includes extended trot and piaffe:D.................Love her and would actively try to find another just like her.
