As it says in the title really! My horse is quite a bright chestnut TB. He currently has brown tack but I recently picked up an older Ideal dressage saddle that's black (well, faded black/ brown). Toying with the idea of putting him in black tack but wondering if it'll look a bit harsh?

All in all a bit of a vain/pointless post but I'm pondering/ shopping!! :)

(hope the pictures work!)
I think my boy suited both :)

I have black on mine and I really like it. Black is easier to match as well. Trying to match different brands that are different shades of brown can be a nightmare :p.

I definitely think that some chestnuts can carry off black tack quite well, I know a girl who has a bright chestnut and he carries off black tack better than brown-time to go bridle shopping? :D

I like brown tack on everything. I was always told black tack was for funerals only but I guess times change!

I have a black horse with brown tack and a chestnut with a brown bridle and a black (synthetic) saddle. I'm hoping to get her a brown saddle at some point.

My boy is chestnut and has a mix! I can't say I've ever given the colour that much thought!!
He has black bridles and a black dressage saddle. But his jumping saddle is Havanna. So for dressage we're black tack, and jumping we're multi-coloured. Can't say I've ever even noticed so it can't look that bad.

Brown for me :)

I love your breastplate! Where is it from? & what is it?

And OP i think that chestnuts can wear both. my chestnut TB is orange and incredibly shinny he has brown for showing & black for dressage ( patent & bling also! )
I did buy a tan bridle in a moment of madness. I quite liked it but tan is worse than brown to match! :(
