Got my Fly boy out for a good groom and cuddle today and noticed that his chestnuts on his front legs were huge. SO,,,,, I picked them! Oh how satisfying! The dog enjoyed them too. Do you ever pick your horses or are do you leave well alone? (Can't help myself, bit of a scab picker too)!!

They're a remnant from evolution. Horses stand on the equivalent of your middle finger, the splint bones are the next 2 fingers, and the chestnut is the thumb.

Not sure what happened to the little finger...?!

i hate seeing untended ones.all mine are taken off flat.my cob has ones that come off in 1 piece, the shetlands are slightly crumblier.i cut my cobs ergots off with secatours or my farrier does it.
