Looking to buy a double trailer, but usually only tow one but thinking it would be nice to have the option to take 2. Have those of you that have changed from a single to a double found that towing the double (with one in) makes it much thirsting than towing a single? Looking only at chevals at this point, towing with a Tiguan. Also my biggest pony is 14.2 for context

I can't really comment on the single as we have a double Cheval...but it's a blooming brilliant trailer!!! We only have 1, she's also 14.2. It's a dream to tow!!! We have a VW Touareg which is a fantastic towing vehicle...it is thirsty though. Even without the trailer! Honestly can't feel it on the back.

The tack room locker is a godsend in the chevals so I'd definitely recommend the double simply for that 😂

I have swapped from a double to a single Cheval and love it but only ever tow one horse. I have a 16.2 solid mare and she loves it too and I can easily tack up inside which was not possible in the double. I do not find it any less stable and I know as long as my car fits through a gap the trailer will too.

Always go for a double. The wider width is more stable than a narrower single. This will give a comfier ride to the pony as well.
We've been looking at the Chevals recently as we'll need to change the car and wondering whether to trade in the lorry and I would say that you need to look at the specific models, as the Cheval Gold One is only 30 cm narrower than the Gold First, which is their starting two-horse trailer. So if you're really interested in having a lot wider, you do need to pick your model carefully.

I have a double, but have also got full width breeching and breast bars, and will take out the central partition if I only travelling the one pony.

I had a single cheval for years and only this year upgraded to a double ifor williams. I adored my CL. Light but robust and all horses travelled well in it, fuel consumption was pretty good too - I towed with a 2l Tucson so very similar to a Tiguan. Only changed to an IW as I wanted to travel two and it's just a bit bigger than a double CL.
The CL is nicer to tow, whether that's the pullman suspension I'm not sure, but I definitely preferred it. If you go for a double, you can get full width breast bars and just cross tie the horse and they usually travel very well - also it's great to be able to tack up in the rain!

We were advised to go for the Gold models as the suspension is much better, and gives a comfortable ride. We chose a double which has been in use for 10 years now, with only regular maintenance. The only problem we have with it is remembering to park it against the prevailing wind as rain comes in the back netting blind.

We've never had this with our double cheval, it's only a year old though so perhaps they have changed the design of the netting?
