Hounds have been very bad today and eaten OHs PS3 controller.

So chew toy recommendations? I'm thinking something hard like nylabone to mimic the obviously very satisfying hard plastic of a games console?

Not their fault if it was left lying in reach, anything my dog has eaten, it's been my fault :p

Nylabones are good, stagbars if you're not worried about teeth as they can be very hard, Kong does a very good range of both stuffable and chewable things.

Be careful in a pack situation as possessiveness can cause argy-bargy.

Toys belong to you and you give and take them away as you see fit (you have the proof of purchase, doggies don't :p)

I personally don't like leaving lots of toys lying around for dogs to pick up and leave when they fancy it, but that's a personal thing - I use them in training so I want the dog to work for a ball or a toy rather than think 'sod this, sure there's one lying on the living room floor anyway when I get home'. But as I say that's just personal with me.

Would avoid rawhide like the plague and not a huge fan of pigs ears, but the Cerea dog chews are quite good (they come in hedgehog, crocodile and toothbrush shapes)

Stag bars are good.

My Border Terrier really likes hard plastic rings to chew, he has two plastic ones and a rope one and seems to like the fact he can chew without using his paws.

He also still has one of these from when he was a baby and loves it:

OH banned the Nyla bone as when it's very chewed it's hard spikey plastic and dog will try and rest it on a human limb to chew, not a problem with hard plastic rings.

Mine hates the nylabone toys, but loves the big rope 'rugger/ragger' toys that leave little threads of cotton everywhere. He also has two toys from America brought back but my other half. Made by WestPaw they are made of a soft rubber but its really durable.

Have to leave him plenty of chew toys otherwise he finds his own. And he's not left alone all day either.
Destruction list so far:
2 x sofa cushions
1 x hard back book cover
1 x paperback
1 x TV remote
1 x fire surround
1x pack of contraceptive pills

He does however ignore any presents the cats bring in.

Mine's a serious power chewer. Destroyed a Kong Xtreme in a few weeks. I've got him a Starmark Everlasting Treat ball. The treat did not last long, but the ball doesn't have a mark on it despite the abuse it's getting. You can put kibble inside the ball, which is relatively easy to get out but adds a bit more fun, or paste which keeps them interested in it.

I'm extremely impressed with it.

An impressive list of destruction! I can match you with..

2x PS3 controllers
1x TV remote
1x pair of my FAVORITE going out shoes
2x pairs of work shoes
1x hardback book
1x box tea bags
4x corners of a coffee tables
4x wooden coasters

and this morning he ate a toothbrush! Literally a WHOLE toothbrush - just a few plastic crumbs remain!

Its my fault as whatever he gets his hands on its because I've left it within reach and I'm useless at closing doors! He just finds chewing really soothing. My other half goes nuts and puts me in the dog house as well!

I see your lists of destruction and raise you:

x1 Blackberrie
x1 ipod
x1 Dominoes pizza (turned back for seconds)
x1 Kong (removed from dogs intestines by vet - not covered by insurance)
x1 Necklace (with cross on it - belonged to religious friend)
x2 Sheepskin over reach boots
x1 Hen
x2 Bank cards
I could go on.

He is 13 now and still going strong - tried to drag my laptop off the other day for reasons best known to himself. Never known another dog like him nor ever will again...
