My pony keeps trying to chew his bridle when I'm trying to put it on. If he can grab any part of it in his mouth he will!

He also tries to grab his headcollar when I go to put it on, and today was chewing the lunge line.

Is there any particular reason for this, or is he just a weirdo?!

No.. my boy has done this for the last 9 years (since ive owned him) he tries to eat his reins, cheekpieces, nosebands, anything leathery he can lays his mitts on!!

Just have to be very cunning when putting his bridle on... if you find any suggestions on how to stop him... pass a few my way!! LOL!! The amount of bridles ive got through with him is no ones business!!

Its an artform!! Ive learnt to always have my eye on the ball when tacking Benji up... If you blink he will have chewed right through a noseband or a set of reins!! Cheeky pony!!

Does he give you a "ooo I'm so much cleverer than you, muahaha" look while he's doing it? And does he insist on chewing bridle, rope, whatever, but get a bit disgruntled when you try to put a bit in his mouth?!

He usually does it once hes got the bit in his mouth. Just stands there snatching and gobbling up your tack. You then have to try and prize it out of his mouth. Once hes got hold of it, hes not too keen to let you have it back LOL!!

My boy does it too and so do another 2 boys on the yard. Funny though none of the girls do it?? I had a tug of war with one the other day trying to get him out of the field, as I tugged on the lead rope, he got it in his mouth and tugged back and wouldnt let go!

Mcfly likes to chew his leadrope when tied up. Not all the time though just most lol. He doesn't seem frustrated or anything and seems quite relaxed when he does.

Cazee, that's the same as when mine does it! It's not like he's biting it, just having a gentle chew. My pony falls asleep when being tacked up and tries to chew his bridle in a half asleep state. Clearly geldings are weird!

Mine does this too!! Only leadropes though, not bridles thankfully. Although he will chew things like toggles on coats, zips, watches if he can get at them. He is a bit of a magpie!

My friends horse has started doing this and i drives me insane. He has started to chew leadropes, headcollars, side reins, basically anything hanging outside the stables wherever he is tied up. I get very annoyed with him, usually results in a smack and a loud no whenever i catch him doing it. We used to have a livery whose horse would chew and mangle EVERYTHING made me so cross.

Think weirdo is abit harsh!
Both mine do this....Luke because he's a baby and chews EVERYTHING, and SWUO because she thinks it's funny to untie herself and go for a wander.

Flash chews everything, lead ropes, headcollar, bridle, electric fence (!!), fence posts, string, buckets, toggles, zips, forks, broom handles, wetwipes, brushes, my hair...the list is endless! yesterday he ran off with a dustbin lid in his mouth! Geldings are strange!

yep frankie chews his leadrope when tied up too! he likes to take himself to the field, with his leadrope in his mouth. of course i go with him to hold his hand as we go across the road! i think its just a baby thing that hes never grown out of xxx

oh yes, mine chews my hair too, and has also taken a liking to chewing my new jacket (thank god I only buy riding clothes from Primark!!) When I first got him he had a huge moustache and he used to use it to snuffle at everything. Now the tash has worn away he seems to have taken up chewing.

I am so glad I'm not the only one whose gelding does this!!
