My horse has lice again. i'm pretty sure they are chewing lice, i don't know if i should clip him or not as he’s really fluffy but shedding like mad. i don't want to ruin his summer coat but also i can’t really get the skin.
i've got dermoline shampoo and some louse powder to use

I clip all year round. I'm not sure what the criteria is for a 'ruined coat', but my boy seems fine. If you clip the whole body and blend the legs, surely it won't be an issue? If you don't show, I'd just leave the legs on without blending, depending on how much you enjoy clipping/how much feather the lice can hide in!

Another vote for spot on. Stops constant reinfection from other animals which is the issue we had! If not, deosect is good.

It's often the other way round, lice tend to infect animals who are struggling for some reason.

Don't treat for lice if you think your horse may have an issue such as liver damage.
This is true years ago my horse was in a field with skinny youngsters they all had lice and he didn't ever get them.
