Ok so I'm going to be moving house within the next year. Well moving out of my home and me and my OH want to move in together.

By this stage my little Beastie will be 7 years old. I don't want to put her thorugh the stress of moving out with me, changing her routine etc so she will be staying at home with my mother who she adores. (I will also visit regularly and she will still get her weekend walks with the lab that she loves and her evening walks)

Now for some crazy reason (I tend to go for big dogs) I really want a chihuahua. Also we will only be moving to a wee small house so OH has put the foot down on getting two labs!

So does anyone own one and tell me what to expect with them? Grooming wise, exercise, how do they get on with other dogs etc? I have owned dogs before so it's not like it is going to be a first pet and I shall def. be going for a bitch as opposed to a dog. Also what colours do they come in?!

Thanks!

We had a male chihuahua before we got Pheobe. and man, he was a beasty. Last straw was when he got protective over the dining room table, and would go for our feet. He was a brave little tyke, but not for us. Went to live happily ever after with my grandma and grandpa - although poor grandad was unable to get close to granny when Oscar was around LOL, and had to fish him out of the pool a few times too.
Ahhhh I hope I haven't put you off

He was a long haired, which I find much prettier than smooth coated. He was fit and healthy with us on a half an hr walk and lots of play time. They are best being fed 2-3 small meals a day rather then 1 large one, due to their high metabolism. (dont quote me on that though, just something I remember when we were researching!!)

Chihuahuas are one of the most common breeds in the city, and they seem to fall squarely into two categories: mean and nasty, and little lovebugs who sit on your knee and lick your hand.

I've heard that the long-haired chis are mellower. Exercise wise, I've seen a lot that will run in circles for hours, and others that walk for ten minutes and then like to be carried.

As with everything, research your breeder well.
