They may not be working dogs, but they earn their keep just keeping us amused. Everyday stresses of life just disappear, watching our lads running around the garden like wild things. Or just seeing them cuddled up under their blanket. Chihuahuas are great. Not exactly Horse and Hound dogs, I know, but my family think they are great. Just musing :)

I have had chihuahuas in the past and totally agree with you. Treated as dogs rather than cuddly toys they are full of character, and are happy to tackle anything a larger dog would, usually with more attitude! :)

My friend/YO has one - he's an amazing dog . . . bundles of character, cute and affectionate sure, but also feisty and bold and very, very funny. I love him and would consider having one after getting to know him.

Smashing dogs.I've had two, both long haired. The first was a wonderful ,faithful, little dog.She was very well trained, walked well on and off lead and even used to go on military bases,in my rucksack when I went away with the schiool cadets. She sadly died at seven due to heart failure.
my second was a badly bred, nervous dog and a very poor example of the breed.
I'd love another ,if it was like the first, but it wouldn't suit my lifestyle right now.

I so agree OP. I Just adore mine. I Wanted a smaller dog than I'd had previously and finally settled on a chi.
The only ones I'd known had been spoiled snappy yappy horrid little devils but I knew the owners well and saw how they were treated so I figured that was the problem.
I did lots of research on the breed and spent a long time finding a good breeder amongst the greedy quick buck type that seem to be everywhere.
Wouldn't have anything else now and only wish I'd got one years ago. Cracking little dogs.

So nice to know that we are not alone in our love for the little ones. They are tiny devils. We have learnt to be very careful not to be trained without knowing. They are very clever at manipulating their humans:)

One of my very good friends have one he is mental his called Thiago after the football player! Not sure if its spelt right, I have a JRT and they are the best of friends we often go on walks they just do not stop playing its hillarious to watch them.

Quite tempted to have a Chi. I like little dogs, but have mainly stuck to JRT's and crosses. I have a JRTxDachs and a Miniature Pinscher at the moment. Would be a bit worried that the MinPin and Chi would clash as they are both very "characterful" dogs.

One of my good friends has a Chi X Papillion (I don't condone so called designer breeds) however he is the smartest wee dog and was bought as a lap dog for her disabled daughter.

Unfortunately no one told him his job description and he thinks he is a Labrador like the two he lives with! He is into everything and regularly follows her horse when she goes out for two hour hacks over the hills behind her house, keeping up no problem. He is not adverse to a bit or rabbiting either although he is smaller than most rabbits. After a busy day of hacking and hunting he curls up on his mistress's wheelchair, just a total star with personality to burn.

A friend used to breed Chi's and also helped with rescue . She would take hers out for a couple of hours everyday and when she had the time would go out for longer. They are great little dogs and I would have one if I felt where I was living wouldn't suit a larger dog. They went off lead but always had a washing line attached to their collar as they would go down a hole at any opportunity, at least with the line she could haul them out . When I picture her I see her with six or seven dogs by her feet and a huge bunch of knitting in her hands.
