Just wondered if anyone had experiences of chilblains anywhere else other than on toes?? My daughter has had a couple on her knees and on her thighs. She had the same last year, resulting in scarring on her legs. Have tried general creams but nothing has worked as yet.. Any ideas??

I suffer with chilblains on the top of my thighs. Very sore and itchy so really feel for your daughter!! I used the chilblain cream from the pharmacy, worked a treat. There was another cream others recommended, sun something or other i think!! Sorry not very helpful!!

Chilblains are essentially burns that are caused by freezing the skin. There are no magic creams but after sun type preparations may help. The area is best warmed slowly (ie don't stick your feet on radiator or jump in a hot bath etc) for the least damage to be done but the best bet is not to get them in the first place- lots of layers and regular breaks in the warm will help avoid them . Bio oil things might help with the scars but not with the chilblains themselves

Chillblains on the thighs are normal in Newmarket, the doctors are so used to seeing it. Betnovate cream which is a prescription drug is the best. Do get it treated, I had a horrible time in Hampshire when I first got it there and the doctors in my GP practice had no idea what it was. So after two months on and off antibiotics which did nothing but upset my stomach, they sent me to Winchester Hospital to a skin specialist. The cheeky GP had even suggested it was shaving rash, on my thighs, I kid you not. Anyway specialist laughed at my GP and told me it was chillblains, although by this stage they had got so bad I now have permanent scarring and they return every year no matter how careful I am. I always wear ski thermals as soon as the weather gets iffy, which helps.

I don't know about treatment but I have a pair of musto snug polartec jodphurs and they are a godsend. Worth every penny as keep my legs so much warmer

Ohhh yerrrssss! Ditto. I've got a pair of these and they are absolutely FANTASTIC. Managed to get a "two for price of one" deal at a local equestrian event. I kid you not, once you've put them on, you won't ever want to take them off, even to go to bed.

THE winter "must-have" item IMO. Don't know how the heck I managed without. Even if it rains, you'll still stay warm as they'll just wick away any water. Fantastic, fantastic, fantastic :):):)
