I have what I thought were gnat bites on my thigh, but they have been there for ages now, showed my mum earlier who thought that they look like chilblains.
I suffer from really cold thighs and bum when the weather is as cold as it has been, and having horses and being a window cleaner they get just so cold!
Has anyone had any experience of them, is there anything I can put on them, they are very itchy but with a kind of burning sensation. (if you know what I mean!)

Lindt bunny and fresh coffee if you got this far! :)

I share your pain (and will be happy to share the Lindt bunny!). I have never in my forty odd years had chilblains until this winter...

Mine sound just like yours... I have them on both thighs and and one of my toes. The toe is really painful, the ones on the thighs are itchy and just downright annoying and uncomfortable. I've just been putting aloe on, to kill the itching, and trying to layer up to avoid getting too cold.

I am really surprised about the toe as I have religiously worn thermal socks. But it has been incredibly cold of late.

I've got them in both feet now. Managed all winter but this cold is ridiculous. Try to keep warm and if you do get cold then defrost yourself slowly. Really feel for you, I've been like a laminitic pony for the last week or so...

I used to suffer horribly with them in my late teens/early 20's on my toes & occasionally on my thighs (if spilling waterbuckets in cold weather)
Snowfire does indeed work well.

I never tried my grans suggestion of weeing on the chilblains, tho apparently that does a good job of reducing them :o :D

Thanks everyone for the replies.
Just off to google "snowfire" and have a read of the link, and order some thermal trousers!

FF not sure how I would manage to wee on my outside thigh lol!!! :)

i have suffered with chilblains for years. Baggy trousers, thermal long johns are the way to go! rohan winter bags (they are trousers!) keep you warm down to -15! and are not bulky to wear though make sure you buy them to fit loosely! no hot baths. Tight jeans and jodhs/breeches are a big no no with me in the winter. prevention is better than cure!

Sudocrem soothes the itching. Keep warm and avoid going from cold to hot to quick. Warm up slowly before getting in a hot bath.

I've had chilblains this year for the first time in twenty years, I get them on my toes and they itch like mad then hurt. They've also blistered I've been using sudocream to ease the itching.

I had them on all toes of both feet in January. First time in 20+ years! I used neem oil on them and no more itching. I really don't know if it was the neem that cured them but I didn't use anything else other than keeping my toes warm when I was indoors. Be really grateful if someone else tries it to find out it it was what cured me. :)

I used to suffer with them really bad. Had them this january when working on the barn from dusk til dawn... Used my christmas money to invest in a pair of ski salopettes (£12 off ebay) and neoprene wellies. Aloe really helps, I just used aloe based aftersun that we already had in the cupboard and avoided the bath for a few weeks.

I feel your pain I have had them for the past two years on my thighs...I thought it was some sort of extreme cellulite to start with !! In terms of relief it is helpful to put cream on them, I think the massaging action of applying the cream is what helps. As far as prevention, I have dug out an old pair of ski salopettes also a longer coat one of the puffy ones, as long as it has a double zip they are great to ride in and it is like venturing out to the yard in your duvet.

No advice on chilblains as thankfully I don't suffer, but the idea of venturing to the yard in a duvet sounds heavenly! :D

Got these for the first time ever over this winter, have snowfire in my bag for dry hands and never knew this worked on chilblains, will give it a try!

Am currently waiting for my "snowfire" to be delivered (hopefully tomorrow) can't wait to try it, the in laws reckon they used to use it for everything many years ago! Also looking forward to using it on my very dry hands, they are currently like Velcro!!!

I used to get them really badly when I worked with horses. Thighs would be covered and would actually get really sore and bleed. My feet would also really suffer, my poor little toes would be twice the size. No matter what socks I wore they would always get cold. Ski trousers were brilliant for around the yard but wasn't allowed to wear any over trousers or long chaps for riding so would still freeze then.

Ouch yes I remember getting them on the thighs, wearing loose/over trousers helped and masses of witch hazel cream to soothe. I did read you are meant to put squashed strawberries on thighs as prevention, never got any firther than eating them though

Currently wide awake with them!! Have a few on my knees an thigh but they are more like bruises rather than chilblains but doctor has confirmed they are, and extremely painful ones on my heels which are very dry anyway which doesn't help :( I have to wear breeches to work so I try to wear tights/leggings underneath but once I'm cold, there's no getting me warm until I've had a hot shower.. I have snow fire too but not so keen on it
