Hi there,

Sorry to be spammy but I need some more responses!

I'm a vet student at the RVC and I'm conducting a survey as part of my course.

I'm looking for parents/guardians with children aged 2-12 who either do or do not own dogs, as well as dog owners without children.

The survey looks at interactions between children and dogs. It should take around 20 mins to complete and there is a chance to enter a draw for £40 of Amazon vouchers.

Done, and really interesting if a bit lengthy.

You may want to post on Mumsnet as there are often discussions and dogs and safety around children.

I would mention just two things:
I had trouble ticking the signs of aggression for my dog as he has never been aggressive.
And before we interact with any unknown dog we ask the owner if it's OK and we then ask the dog if it's OK (arm out, palm for dog to sniff, stroke under chin if all OK) so in those sections I assumed that I'd gone through these steps and all was well.

I'm in the process of doing it but finding a little difficult on my phone - the screen is just too sensitive, I keep inadvertently pressing buttons when scrolling up and down!
I will complete on Monday on my work PC. One issue I'm finding (having 3 children) is that some questions would be very dependant on the age of the child. For example there are things I would be happy for my 8 year old to do with a dog that I wouldn't have wanted her doing when she was 2 years old. The survey may address this at the end -
Forgive me if it does as I didn't get that far.

Just a little bumpity bump :)

Thank you for all who have replied so far- and sorry it's so long :( but I have so many bases to cover!
Keep 'em coming pretty please?

I will complete this later, I just started but realised the whole page doesn't show on my phone! Got a bit confused flicking back and forth so will do it after dinner on my laptop :)

Looks very interesting, I haven't got far but is there a part to put the breed etc? Mines an ex racer and has a muzzle still when out or when kids are around (she's generally good, but not worth the risk IMO).

Sorry, haven't looked at the survey because I'm becoming a bit bored with them.

Just posting to say that my dogs love children, but if I let them have more than one a week, they start to put on weight.

Me again, I'm afraid! Giving it a bump. The deadline is 18th January 2016 so please, please, please have a go :)

Also, if you have any friends/relatives/co-workers etc that might be convinced to take part then please pass on the link

It seems everyone in the world has a survey to fill in- my apologies for being one of them...

Done.

My dog is great with children but I'm often amazed that parents will let their children approach strange dogs- or worse, let them scream when they see a dog. No common sense whatsoever.

I replied assuming the child would be 3 years old or under as that is the age of my grandson. Will you let us know the results of the survey please? I was in two minds about my answer as to what to do if the dog is showing his belly. Is the dog showing his belly because he is scared or because he expects a belly rub?

Answered, as a dog owner, to the best of my abilities; with some of the questions it was a case of picking the closest fitting option for an answer where none really applied. I do appreciate how hard it is to make a survey that allows for several variables though. At a few points an additional text box would perhaps have been helpful, but no doubt the amount of material to wade through and structure could have subsequently been overwhelming.

Best of luck with the survey, and I agree seeing the results summarised would be interesting. :)
