I had to buy my daughter a new helmet and she has the strangest head shape, the best fit for her head is a skull not the usual velvet show hats. as a mother I'm going to buy what gives her the best fit for her head and is up to correct showing kite mark but am now feeling nervous that she will not be allowed to show in a skull. also I'm a cheap skate and do not want to pay £125 or more for a hat she wears 6-8 times a year she's 10 and her head will change again before becoming an adult. by the way these are just local small riding club shows and pony club shows so we are not talking HOYS standards.
 
Buy a smart navy velvet cover and that will be fine, at local level she will not be the only one wearing one and there are no rules to stop her wearing it as long as it is of the correct standard.
 
OldieButGoodie thank you for putting my mind at rest, I don't want to paying out for an ill fitting hat just because its blue velvet at least with the skull she can have as many silks as she likes
 
A blue velvet cover is fine.

Her head may not change much from now. I wore the same hat from the age of 8 til I finally admitted that it really had NO protection value at all at the age of 24 ☹☹☹ sad times ☹☹☹ it was my home hat so not used at shows, had no padding left which made it too big lol! I still have the same size head. Well it got measured at the Highland Show last year and is actually down a size from what I was buying - score! I can now buy kids hate again! They are shallower too! I have a tiny head 😂😂😂

I'm jealous, I've got huge head at 61cm!! Must be my supersize brain ;)
