DSC02281.jpg
what classes would she be allowed in shes only 4 her pony is 10.2hh shetland x she has a fallen crest but is so loving with children my little girl adores her, i was thinking a small local show in the bonny pony or something would anyone say she is too young. olso we adore our milly pony but have had some very cruel remarks about her neck which upsets my daughter as her pony is perfect to her what does everyone think

Um, I think it would be a good idea to get your daughter a hat that fits and don't let her ride in trainers!

Apart from that, I don't see why you couldnt do just about anything with the pair of them. They look adorable together. WHat about a bit of LR showing (i don't really know what a fallen crest looks like), Prettiest Mare, Handy Pony...anything at all really!

yes i know forgot to add that to the post the pic was the first day of moving to the new field and her nannie was there she mentioned pictures and next minute my daughter had her tack out putting the saddle on millie she dosent normally wear this for riding this is her fallen crest

What classes can she do.........just about anything she likes!
Get a schedule for the next show, see whats suitable and get her entered!
Lots of local shows have classes that tots can enter

What a cute pony and sweet child to.
There is loads you can do. LR, Prittyest mare, Handy pony, Tack and turn out, Thelwell look alike etc etc. I would get some local scheduls and just see what they have. As long as she can sit on the pony and not fall off she will be ok. I have seen some shocking riders alot older than your daughter at shows. Just check there is not a min age in the rules. As for any nasty comments just ignore them (easyer for you than your daughter) Your pony looks so sweet and has every right to be there and so does your daughter. I have had some nasty comments about my pony but i just think they are just jelous as Lucy is so perfect.

May be just tell your daughter that and it might help her. Please don't let anyone ruin your day. Hope you have fun whatever you do.

Try dressage - I saw a child competing yesterday that looked about the same age as your child. She did a walk/trot test and mum called it for her - she was told to trot at 'curly c'

- she came 2nd! If your daughter doesn't know left from right - use coloured gloves so she turns to the red side or the pink side.

How horrid! The best childrens ponies tend to be those who aren't stunning, but have hearts of gold. I would try and do lead rein rider, thelwell lookalike, best junior rider ect. Basically any class thats judged more on the riding than ponies looks!

I've never seen a fallen crest before, bless her

You can do allsorts with her though, we've a 10hh shetland (unregistered) and have done LR classes at local shows, handsomest gelding, best mane and tail, inhand stuff (veteran), and fancy dress. My daughter was 3 when she did her first show, so shes not too young at all

take them along with a picnic and just enjoy the day.

Its a great lesson for your daughter to learn that beauty comes from within, and that truly is one pretty pony. It makes me want to cry to think anyone would say anything so nasty to a child about their pony

What a HORRIBLE thing to say to a child on a pony. I don't usually bother speaking to stupid ignorant people like that but i would have let her have it good and proper if she'd said that to my child, and i would have made sure that everyone on the yard knew what she'd said. What a complete and utter b*tch.

I've never seen anything like that neck. Does it bother her at all, or is it purely a cosmetic problem?

If you are worried about people saying anything about her fallen crest, then you might be best to avoid 'proper' showing classes such as lead rein pony, veteran, M&M. Good classes could be best lead rein rider, handy pony, lead rein gymkhana etc., where it is not the appearance of the pony that is being judged.

I do a lot of showing and I personally would avoid any class that is judged on appearance, as the judge would have to take into account her crest and it would be heart breaking for your kiddie to be last every time.

She could do child handler, best rider, handy pony, maybe tack and turnout, best mane and tail, not sure about pretty mare/pony judge would wnat to take home as some would not find the crest attractive - I am being very honest here, I would over look it if I were judging this class (I normally choose the most unattractive pony to take home so the kid gets a red ribbon for once) but some would not.

What I would do is aim at some local dressage, SJ, mounted games where the appearance really does not matter and will be good fun for her.

I really can't believe that woman - what a childish bitch. I have been asked when judging on whether the pony could do better and always try to be tactful and honest, ie lovely pony but not really county standard but if you did xxxx it will do better in this class at this level, never what she said.

i was told that she got it when she was about 3 she was stuck in a field being terribly over weight and her crest got so bit that when the lady bought her and fetched her in to work her crest stayed but dropped over iv had the vet out there is no cure for it and it will never get back to normal but it dosent hurt her she will never be a show pony as she is unbalanced in canter caus of it but shes worth her weight in gold for children my daughter loves her to bits. as for the woman we shortly after left the livery when she layed in to her stallion with a schooling whip while my daughter was sat on millie on the yard i didnt want my baby growing up thinking that its ok to treat horses like that thanks everyone for your support

i was thinking child handler, bonny pony(only caus its a local show and all the kids get a rosette) and fancy dress for her first time then mebe try at doing a lead rein jumping class class later in the year as this is what my daughter really wants to do i dont want to push her in to it as she is only 4 so just letting her get the feel of a showground

Blimey, what a cruel woman - never mind a 4 year old, I think I'd cry if someone said that about my pony!

Is she pretty unflappable? She could do handy pony, gymkhana games, and the novelty classes: longest tail, most thelwell look alike, and of course fancy dress! There might also be some equitation type classes, which would be focussed on the rider, and depending on the show/judge, classes for young children are sometimes judged more on the suitability and temperament of the pony, before looks.

IMO children's classes judges shouldn't say anything nasty to the child anyway, and from what you've told us she is much loved and your little girl is proud of punch of her, which always comes across well in shows I think.

As for disguising the neck, if you want to, I would be tempted to try putting the mane to the other side to which it flops, if you see what I mean? The lattice plaits shown on the link someone else posted would keep it on the opposite side. A centre parting could also disguise it a bit. Who cares that its not the official way to show, when you're a little girl having fun on her much loved pony! Oh, and if your girl doesn't think its too babyish, perhaps if you did lead rein you could, ahem, subtley prop up the crest a bit?
wink.gif

I hope you all have a fun season this year!
