I have just seen two girls hacking along the busy road I live on, they couldnt of been any older than 10 and alone!

There are alot of talented children out their, but surely these girls need supervision!

Shocking

My daughter hacks alone but she is almost 14 and takes her mobile with her, and tells me where she is going first. If she changes her route she has to ring me and let me know.

10 is far too young to be out alone, especially on a busy road.

I used to hack out with friends at that age....

Probably as I had been riding for 8 years and life wasn't as dangerous then as it is now.

I used to hack out at a younger age but our roads used to be very quiet and NOTHING in the world or the next would spook my pony.
However I do live in the same place now and regularly see very young girls hacking out. Without any sign of high viz on them and they don't seem to pay much attention to the roads which are much busier now that I stopped hacking my bombproof pony out in because of bad drivers (different pony from the one first mentioned).
I HATE hacking out now because of the amount of stupid drivers.

I was 12 when I started going out on my on my own but I had a totally bomb proof pony and my mum wouldn't let me go out alone until I passed my PC road safety test! Didn't have a mobile then though.

Well I dont like either of my daughters out on the roads tbh , ones 14 and the others 18 , its not them or the pony but the drivers who race down the roads , I would far sooner they stayed in the sand school but if they do go out it's usually with another and always with a mobile and loads of hi viz , so yes I think these girls are too young to go out alone but then adults have accidents too

I think you need to be very careful. Sadly, these days it's not just about the type of horse or area you are riding in. It's also about the fact that sometimes young lads think a pretty girl on a horse is there for their fun and they can at best show off eg on push bikes or motor bikes and at worst can get downright dangerous and/or take harmless chatting up and flirting to a different level. Some young girls out riding wouldn't be streetwise enough yet to know how NOT to encourage that sort of behaviour and might be flattered by the initial attention. Or they might be terrified by a gang of half a dozen lads revving their engines right behind them and their ponies for a mile or 2. I would always say ride out in company.

I saw a couple of primary school age girls, not only out alone, but with not HiViz, bare in mind it was rush hour traffic and winter so pitch black!! I got a friend's kids go to their school and collar the monther. She got a stiff talking to!

i hacked out alone daily in my early teens, on an insane demon of a pony!
we had several close calls with bad drivers and groups of lads 'showing off' and when i was 15 a kid (no older than 10) threw a large stone at my mare in the middle of a busy housing estate ful of little kids running around. my mare then had a fit of broncs and when she stopped i trotted over to the little brat and ordered him to go get his mam! the mother appeared and accused me of scaring the child and that no harm had been done to my pony!

when i have kids i will be alot more carefull than my (non horsey) parents were about me going out alone.

My daughter hacked alone and with friends from age 10, she had done the PC R&RS achievement badge, always wore Hi Viz and took her phone, if the track was blocked she would phone and tell me if she had to change her route.

She also hunted alone from age 12/13 and took her BHS R&RS age 14. She is now 17 and learning to drive - now that scares me!
