My grand daughter is 8 years old and I am looking for some synthetic long riding boots for her. I have found some online but none seem to give the length of leg, calf width etc. Any recommendations please.

The reason calf size and leg length are not listed is because they are fairly universal - particularly so in the long synthetic boots which do tend to scream novice. As others have said it is relatively rare for them to fit any child - but they do produce hilarity when they can't keep them on during trot work without stirrups. (Actually they don't fit many adults either!)

Long boots on children is however common in junior BS - but they will be leather not rubber and often MTM. Otherwise most parents - and kids - tend to prefer short boots and chaps as they are more comfortable and give a better feel for when you are riding.

OP if you (or indeed your granddaughter) are really determined on the long boots the best thing to do is to go somewhere like Decathlon and try them on. (You probably won't get them cheaper on line anyway). If you / she is determined on long boots to compete (and as others have said this is not necessarily correct) look at leather makes like Brogini who do good children's fit. If she needs a long boot because of a mobility issue (I had a PC Child once with hypermobility and she needed the inflexibility of the long boot to protect her ankles) then you might do better in the long run to look at a less flexible leather boot such as just togs or ariat. Children grow out of stuff fairly fast so - especially if she has small feet - you might find a suitable second hand pair on ebay.

Agree they won’t fit. They will be too long and hurt her behind the knees as a minimum because they always do. Short boots and chaps definitely the way to go.

My very tall slim 8yr old wears medium Dublin children’s chaps. They aren’t dear and she rides at least once most days for over 2 hours at a time.
