Chilled to stressed

Hi I am a new horse owner and have bought a Irish Sports Horse 7 weeks ago. He has been very easy going when I brought him to his new yard and would be led from paddock to stable with no problems. He has just become stressed out over the last couple of days. I thought he had some tummy trouble ( he's on hay speedibeet and chop and about 8 hrs turnout). He seemed a bit girthy and didn't like his belly touched. I was recommended pink powder as a probiotic supplement. I have given him 2 doses over the last day and half and he's become hyper stressed and refuses to go into stable and when he's in there he paces round and is very agitated. He doesn't eat his hay and he is hyper, not listening and difficult to handle. I put him out today in paddock and moved fence to allow more grass grazing and he calmed down a bit. But this evening he wouldn't leave paddock and it took 2 of us to make him walk. Then he was so agitated in stable I have put him back out overnight. It's like he's had a personality change and is a different horse. Could it be the pink powder or something else. Advice appreciated.

Definitely stop the PinkPowder, it made 2 of ours hyper and footy. I wouldn't worry the vet over the holiday but stop the PP and see how he is in a week's time. He does sound a bit ulcer-y, though

Thanks I have not used it today and let him have 24hr turnout. And I have noticed he is much better when he's around other horses too. So much to learn!!

Hi, we are at a yard on a temporary basis where his stable is on its own he can't see or hear any other horses. He was absolutely fine at first and it's only been the last 3 or 4 days that he won't go in. He's been out 2 full day and nights now and gone back to chilled. I think he feels trapped in the stable without other horses around and he's got stressed and this has increased acid problems, which has then led to pain. Hopefully 24 hour turnout will help until we move yards. Then we'll have to do it all again, but at least we'll be more prepared and he's getting a stable with horses next to him.

Hi, I think you have your answer he's unhappy if stabled on his own. Lots of horses are so it's not at all unusual. I'd either leave him out full time or make sure he has a friend stabled at the same time. Some horses cope initially but get more stressed with time others do learn to cope with it but some never do.
