Chinese lanterns

When i arrived at the yard the other morning, i noticed these white things strewn across the field, parked my landy and went to have a look, there were about 20 of the blooming things still completely in tact apart from some singing the wires at the bottom could be so dangerous to the horses, i hate to think the commotion they must have caused to the horses when they came down i personally don't think they should be allowed.

I know, we live on the edge of town and they come sailing over the hill in the park next door, hit the cooler air of town and come down. Have found several over the past year.

I think NFU or CLA or someone are campaigning to ban them, but I have also seen ones without any metal.

I think the chinese are on a mission to create as much polution as possible, giving people the abillity to litter the countryside with lanterns is just one of many enviromental messes they make along with cr&py goods that end up landfill rather then doing what they were sold to do, toys covered with lead paint, valleys damed up for irrigation , building100s of filthy coal powered powerstations, oil spills and other damage...

I have been in correspondence with the Sarah Raven catalogue peeps trying to presuade them to stop selling these things. They sell the bamboo framed ones but bamboo can still pierce a horse or cows gut wall and kill it and they are a fire risk. Not to mention if they are landing in a field of grass that is then shredded for silage......:-(

At first they said bamboo was ok and they werent a fire risk but I sent them a BBC news article about a 9acre crop fire in Oxon this week caused by these things and they are now reviewing whether to sell them again.

So for anyone wanting to shame retailers into not selling these stupid dangerous things, heres the link to disprove them if they claim they are not a fire risk

BTW normally Im a live and let live person and dont believe in restrictign freedom, but really object to these as they dont stay on your property and just float off whereever to cause misery elesewhere and animal suffering.

Ive noticed the IWantone of those catalogue is selling them too (and no mention of bamboo) so they are my next contact....

I found one of these in my field about 2 weeks ago. I was trying to make out what it was as I was approaching it and didn`t realise what it was til I picked it up. Actually my friend with me told me what it was. Not found anymore since tho. I did wonder how the horses had reacted when it was floating around them. Luckily there wasnt any wire attached either.

Well done bl**dy things are a nightmare and a major hazard to farm livestock. Ban them!!!!

I have found several this year-they seem to be getting more popular. My horse is a total wimp, I bet he thinks the aliens are coming for him when they land in his field!
