My horse has just been diagnosed with this - apparently is very unusual outside of racing (where prognosis is poor).
Because of where it is - so close to the ligaments etc they are reluctant to operate immediately, and advise box rest for a month and then reassess.

Does anyone have any experience of this? She is 3 and was just about to be backed - am wondering if she has a life of on/off lameness ahead of her or if she can become sound enough for competition?
any experiences?? thank you

We had one two summers ago where I worked, she fractured her sesamoid bone SJing, went on to have a month or so box rest and tildren via IV. She has had a year out of competing and is now doing BE novice - she is quite a heavy horse in front and slams along, so it was doubtful she would return to competition - but she is a tough old mare!!

Good luck with yours!!
