Have been using a very good chiropracter on my novice eventer. however he has had to come out twice in the last week, once from a very weird jump out xc which twisted the back and the other from somehow getting tangled in the rug in the field pinning a back leg (worn that rug like that all winter). he now knows that the chiropracter hurts him because he seems to feel the pain a lot though i didn't feel a thing when the same person did my back. any idea on how to prevent him feeling pain and trying to kick the chiropracter?? the vet said that he has had to sedate some horses to have their backs put back but that seems a bit extreme

a good chiropractor will take the time to do muscle release, light massage, gentle stretches etc that will make the horse feel good, interspersed maybe with the more major stuff. i've had loads of horses worked on and none has ever tried to kick the chiro... i'd try someone a bit less drastic, personally!

I don't know kerilli, some work has even had to be done under a general anaesthetic (sp?).

My horse used to try and kick, he got fed up with the treatment and wouldn't "let go" he was fighting it and didn't like some of the sensations. Now, with the same man, he stands there looking dopey, yawning and relaxed.

I think the chiro might have some more skills now, though. He works, then waits a bit and sometimes we have a bit of a chat, before he goes back to work on the horse. But sometimes he does have to pick up that leg and extend it, or whatever, and sometimes the horse isn't that pleased about it.

My horse sees a physio and he tends to bite me cos he knows hes not allowed to kick the physio! He is of a fairly grouchy disposition though! (the horse that is!)

has previously been fine with him. had the vetting stopped when i got him as the vet decided he had a slight gait change (international endurance vet, can spot a gait change from a mile away), owner got her own vet out who said he was fine, but my vet wouldn't budge, got the chiro and found a twisted pelvis. just recently after a very funny jump at aldon nov when he skewed the back end out to clear the brush (ignored me, jumped off dodgy stride, what can you say!) twisted 3 verterbrae out behind saddle which were put back in the next day but were very painful. horse hid when chiro arrived today and the poor man had to dodge hooves just to stroke him. was given bute last time and this but calms as soon as he goes.

have Pm'd you!
