I bought a 4 year old mare about a month ago who had been lunged a lot with her nose constantly on the floor.

This was incredibly difficult and unbalancing for a young horse who is really quite underdeveloped. It has taken its toll on her body.

When she lowers her head to that extreme whilst walking or trotting (not that I let her do this now), you can see her pelvic bone almost come over the top of her back muscle.

She has had an acupressure treatment to help with the supporting muscles and that has made a huge difference but the acupressure lady also recommended that I have her skeletal system looked at.

Could anyone advise me what sort of practitioner to use please?

I am waiting for a full response from my vet about it but as she is technically sound he didn’t seem too worried. It is affecting her wellbeing though so I want to do something about it as soon as possible.

osteo all the way. chiropractors are too harsh i think. its not just bones, its also the muscles around them that need to be worked. i have found osteos to be brillinat for my lad, completely transformed his shape..

I'v used both and one of mine hated treatment from both as he gets quite sore around the stifle areas (had both op'd on). I now use a Mctimoney manipulator and it's amazing. Really gentle treatment and works wonders.

I'd be using a GOOD equine physiotherapist - depending on exactly where you are, you might get Tim Bradford, who is one of the best! (He comes to me and I'm Shropshire/Worcestershire border) http://www.bradfordsvetphysio.co.uk/

You'd be looking at about £120 for the first visit/treatment - but for that you get a 'whole horse' evaluation and treatment - and work to do to continue the process!
