Two young women riding bay horses down a busy road towards the bridleway on the common.
No high viz.
One looked a bit lacking in confidence. Her friend in front had the reins in one hand and a mobile phone in the other, which was glued to her ear.
Neither of them acknowledged the stream of cars that were considerately slowing down and passing them in turn. So bliddy rude.

These are the people who wind motorists up and give horse riders a bad name.

Someone here must know who they are, or even better, maybe they come on here. If they do - here's some news - your horses didn't show up very well in the shade and sunlight, so it's lucky for you really that there was a lot of traffic about and the cars were therefore in a slow queue before they saw you. Do you need someone to draw you a picture or show you some horse and car collision photos?
 
I am yet to see a rider ride around that particular area wearing High viz.
Shocking.
 
Saw one yesterday morning trotting down north cray road with no high viz in rush hour. Total idiot given the amount of horse related accidents that happen on that road!
 
North Cray Road!! Mind you, this was nearly as bad because the visibility was poor. At least on North Cray Road it's fairly straight. On this road the horses were hidden in the shade, and cars didn't have many places where they could safely pass.

It's not just about them is it? If there's an accident they could get hurt, but so could drivers and passengers and their horses. I do think that when you're riding in traffic at least you need to be actually "riding". not just slouching along. Unexpected things happen and even the best behaved horse can have that startled moment. AND... If the dozy *!*!! in front hadn't had her phone in her hand then maybe she could have used it to acknowledge the nice drivers with a little wave. But it was as if the cars weren't there, they didn't even look in our direction. Maybe fines for being on the mobile when riding on the public highway?

Not to mention the harm they do to the image of riders in general.

I hope they see this. Idiots!
 
Bloody idiots. I fear they won't take it on board until they're involved in an accident and the horse/rider is either injured or killed. :rolleyes:
It's just common sense, how dumb do people have to be to not realize how much of a risk they're putting themselves and their horses lives in?

Gahh.
 
It's a small world isn't it? So many people responding quickly who are in a similar area. :-)
This "ups" the thread in the hopes it will be spotted by the riders or people who know them.
 
They're probably setting off again today. Someone here must be local and have an idea who they are. Or maybe they ride out themselves on this busy stretch of road in a similar fashion...

Earlier this week I saw a girl leading a dark coloured horse down a fairly busy B road at dusk (Tamworth Road in Corley).

If I had had a high vis in my car I would have stopped and given it to her.

I just would never dream of setting foot on the road with my horse without high vis and would never let anyone else ride my horse on the road without at least a tabbard
