Choke on an Apple slice

little George choked on an Apple slice in his feed yesterday. He is all better now.

Just posting this to tell everyone to be careful/ don’t feed sliced fruits and veggies!

Scary, glad he's OK. I've always been advised to feed fruit whole.

I snap carrots or squash apples if putting in feeds. If feeding from hand I just feed whole

I have always cubed my apples, carrots and any other fruit like celery, cucumber, swede. Banana it doesn't really matter as I only ever feed it soft.

I've been dicing mine by cutting a carrot in half down the length, then down the length again and then across. Done this for 25 yrs and never had an issue.

Eldest child tried to choke himself on a slice of nectarine at school earlier, it’s not just horses

I cut apples into quarters and never had a problem. I slice carrots down lengthways so they are long but thin.
I would never cut things small or diced.

Our old companion pony of 33 years choked on a piece of apple in her mash. My lovely vet talked me through on the phone and fortunately it passed without a visit.

I always let Orbi bite them himself

Yeah I chuck mine in whole so they can bite them themselves.
But also Tali is very messy so it’s easier to avoid the froth and get all sticky
