My 9mnth old foal has choked twice and coliced once.. He goes out in the day. In at night. He has hay at night. Allen and page am and pm(soaked). I think the colic could have started as choke, he was in the field at the time.
Anyone experienced this before?
Is there any good feed for horses that choke?
Do you think this could be a long term problem?

My rising 4 year old suffered impaction colic twice when 7 months old .We were in the middle of a prolonged cold snap like this current one.She was clearly not drinking enough.Could this be a contributory factor?I would give her warmish drinking water at least twice a day and make sure all hay was soaked- again,I would pour extra warm water just before feeding it, perhaps from the kettle in this weather.
My horse has never suffered impaction colic in the winters since-all 3 of which have been just as cold as Christmas 2008!
