For those of you on DIY yards, what's the furthest you'd be prepared to stable your horse?

When I lived with my mum I was at a fantastic yard which was about 6miles away(8minutes by car) . I then moved in with OH and yard was 2minutes round the corner. Unfortunately Yard went completely down hill though so I moved to another place which was 4miles away and an 8 minute drive. Livery was too expensive (£40pw) so moved to a place 3 miles away and a 5 minute drive.

However they're is absolutely no hacking at this yard and my boy is the type that goes sour if in the arena too much. Despite being told I could ride through the fields and through a wood onto hacking(we're not allowed to ride in the fields at this time of year).

I am going to ask around, all I'm looking for is turn out, a stable and hacking. An arena would be a bonus! But not a necessity as I can box up and use an indoor arena not far.

Ive seen a place advertising which is roughly about 5 /6 miles (10 minutes) away. The only thing that puts me off it is they let walkers camp in a designated field.

I should add I've been at these yards within a period of 6.5 years, It sounds as if ive been at them all within a week!

So, I guess I'm asking, how far would you be willing to stable your horse away from you? Would you be happy with the idea of the livery yard with campers?

Mine is a 15 mile/25 minute drive away, visit twice daily. Mainly chose it for the hacking and school although the people are really lovely :). There are countless 'yards' mostly farms closer but I am happy where I am.

I have previously kept my horse on a yard which had holiday cottages, and another with a camping field and have never had any problems, the YOs have always made the visitors aware that they shouldn't feed the horses or go in the fields with them.
