Hi - I may be getting slightly ahead of myself, but I wanted to know as much as poss about choosing XC colours...

So far, i've just thrown on what ever top i had, and as my body protector is blue - i've mostly looked blue...!!

Can't afford now to change the BP to a coloured one, so wondered what colour would be best underneath it.

horse is very dark / looks almost black in photo's. Not sure i'd be brave enough to do a Lucinda Fredericks and wear all that pink!!! initially was thinking pale blue and then the dark blue BP.

here she is - would it suit her???

If it is warm I just XC in my shirt and stock, but if it is colder I XC with a black long sleeved top or thin roll neck as my colours are light blue and black.

You could maybe wear your shirt or a navy polo shirt in the summer and a Navy long sleeved top/shirt or roll neck in the winter.

Sorry small hijack -I keep meaning to get some drawn up in our family racing colours. Maroon body, navy blue arms, light blue hoop in middle of body and white cap with pink hoops. Now how would I transfer that to xc colours? Would it cost a bomb? Have looked at getting the cap done that would be £30. We have an old woollen set of silks but they are so uncomfortable and I cannot find the silk silks as have disappeared after my sister used them last P2P in 2001.

When I first started riding the woman who taught me ownened 7 horses, each had colour cooridianted stuff so everyone know who had what. So when I started riding with her I got to choose a colour (that wasn't taken) for all my brushes etc - I choose purple, and have ridden xc in it ever since. Now I have my own girl I have adapted it slightly as I wanted something unique to her so still on the purple theme new colours are dark purple and ddep pink (not too garish and suits her colouring).

I've always thought pale blue looks lovely against very dark horses so I think your suggestion of navy and pale bale would look really lovely against your mare. Also, the pale blue should stand out enough to make you easily recognisable too!

lec - Try www.darkhorseuk.com they do racing and XC shirts in different from the norm designs. They might do a special one for you?

Otherwise there was a brilliant woman on Ebay who made tops and silks basically to order. You could choose the colours, design etc. and she even makes them to your size of skull! But I cant see her on Ebay now......

Not sure where the best place is for colours, I have always picked my bits up from highstreet type shops and have a mother who is amazing on the sewing machine!

Daughter wears what's called wedgewood blue and purple, it looks really good and stands out XC. Don't order from Dark Horse, they are slow on sending stuff and the quality is bad too. The best person seems to be the one in Glos that all the event riders use, ask BB's..

Colours sound nice but then they are similar to mine !

Suggest having a blue numnah too as it then very easy to pick yourself out when looking at photos. I got a nice blue Polypad called "butterfly" I think, which stayed wonderfully in place and really stands out.

Bright colours always photograph well, would you be brave enough to go for something really strong? Bright red? Bright green? Yellow?

Oh, and if you go for a nice colourful hat it makes it much easier to spot yourself on a big page of thumbnail prints at an event.

If you're really brave you could go for something like Beth's (Millbrook Song) which it bright orange
