As explained in my thread a few days ago, on Christmas Day I called the vet out as Mollie was choking.

The vet was there a while as although the blockage had cleared, after examining Moll she was concerned the spasm was turning to colic. She gave her an intravenous injection of Buscopan. This also took some time as Moll was having none of it and dragged both of us round the stable losing the needle in her bed. Eventually the needle was found and the injection given.

The bill has arrived today and is £117.

I don't know what anyone else thinks, but I think this is very reasonable. I will be enclosing a nice Thank You card along with my cheque. :D

I wouldnt be too upset with that either :)

How is the lady now?

She's absolutely fine thanks.

I live on a low income and keeping a horse is a struggle, but I'd have paid much more than this to see her well. Maybe she's have been okay without the vet, but I wouldn't risk it. I didn't actually know choke could lead to colic, but when the vet told me that I was just so glad I'd called her out. Better safe than sorry.

Gosh that is good, I'd be very pleased with that!! I got one the other day £80 for a routine call out on an arranged day.

Glad she's all better now! X

Very reasonable considering we had an emergency trip to the vet with my sister rabbit two weeks ago and the bill for that was £98, £75 for the call out to the surgery, £15 consultation fee and £8 for steroid and antibiotic injections that he needed.

Yes that's good my bill was much more for a call out at 7pm as my mare was severely lame- he looked at her in the field, guessed it was an abbess, gave her pain relief and told me to call the farrier in the morning! Think was just under £200! X

That sounds very reasonable to me and agree better to call vet than take a chance and pleased that your mare is better. As a comparison, I took my dog to the emergency vets last Tuesday as my vets no longer offer 'out of normal hours' service. It was 30 mile round trip, £90 consultation fee and 3 jabs - total bill £136.

That sounds pretty good to me. My horse was in the vets over xmas for 4 days and had alot of intensive care xmas eve and xmas day with obs for the remaining two before he came home and the bill came to £820 which includes £539 of drugs...i was really pleased with this and my horse has made a full recovery.
My vet didnt even charge for the emergency callout!

Wow I think that's extremely good! When my mare colicked in July, the vet lived on-site, so technically there was no "call-out"...but I was still charged €170! On a normal day! So I think you have a wonderful vet and a Thank You card is definitely in order! :)

wow, id be pleased with that!! both times my mare has coliced out of hourse it has been £150 a minimum! and that includes a rectal exam.
