Hi - Was speaking with a saddlery at Powderham Horse Trials and they mentioned a christmas horse fair near exeter - does anyone know details?? Can't seem to find anything on the web!!!

it's called the devon and cornwall christmas equine fair and held at westpoint showground, Exeter. There's a similar one at the bath & west showground called the westcountry equine fair. I've no idea who organises them but searching for those names might find something on google.

Thanks - Have you been along? The guy at Powderham said it was a good - First hand experience always helps though!

I think it must have changed its name? It seems to be renamed the south west christmas equine fair on the website - if it is def the same one? Tim Stockdale should be good

yes, although it was years ago when it first started (I think). It is quite good for a spending spree before christmas. no idea what it's like now though. There's lots of stalls/tradestands of types- saddlerys, feed, clothing, art work etc and also displays in a small arena throughout the day.

I'm sure some others on here will be able to give you more info on what it's like now.

PS are you really planning that far ahead already???

Not really but I wanted to bookmark it for nearer the time - I'm new to devon and after I asked the guy at powderham about other events he kept coming back to this one - so thought I would look it up - thanks to you its bookmarked!

Will be advertised in local press and the horsey mags (including H+H) closer to the time. The demos are great too!!!

), If into Showjumping there is Bicton (www.bicton-swsjc.co.uk), if dressage wellbeck have a fair bit locally including the young horse qualifiers which normally carl hester and a few other 'names' come down for as such a quiet venue which perfect for the babies.

Trying to think of other things now and drawing a blank lol but there is a fair bit!

it is good and theres always good bargins, i find the demos are pretty much the same each year, just different people, and it gets packed... big time!

We exhibited the stallion there in the parade last year, and there were several thousand visitors so a good shop window.
You have to pay to get in, but it's mostly under cover with cafe and decent loos.
I always enjoy the stalls, they vary from horse stuff to things like massage chairs, but there are some very good bargains to be had, I bought my daughter some soft leather gloves for competing for just a fiver!
Don't know if we'll bother going this time, we don't get any mares from it, but it does keep his profile up and that helps sell the youngstock.
It was a really intimidating experience for a horse as the arena is tiny and the crowds close, one stallion ditched his rider as the sound system started up next to his ear, and others only did the first day then chickened out of the second!
We felt it was good experience for the horse and I doubt he would worry this year, if we go do come and say hello, he is the black stallion called Harper's Bornival.
