I wont ride as i have 4 to muck out, feed etc! Someone will feed H for me as he is at a different yard, i will feed the 3 at home, skip out and then go home open presents, go upto H take him his presents and muck out. Then will put them all to bed at about 4ish! Going on a 2hr ride out with the yard on the 27th though

Mulled wine afterwards!!

Merry Christmas. I shall simply go down to the yard, get her in, make her a big feed, give her half a can of guiness in her feed, while I share the other half a can, I might sing to her, something like away in a manger, put her out with a big kiss, then dash home to cook teh turkey and beef and open a bottle of champagne xx

smile.gif
Unfortuantly one horse already has his present due to the fact he decides to rip his rug nicely :/ grrr...

How lovely to have got your horsey on Christmas Day
smile.gif
I won't be riding Chrsitams day because going over to my sisters in Shropshire for lunch with OH, Dad and his OH.
smile.gif

My girl is getting a Mark Todd Fleece/Waterproof exercise rug for Christmas plus some treats hope she likes?

I am hoping to get out on mine this christmas day, however I have even less time this year as we are stopping at my OHs christmas eve then I have all my family to see on christmas day.

Will ride for a bit on Christmas Day morning then will go back over to the yard again as usual in the afternoon to feed them. Having our Christmas meal in the evening so some of us will go to yard, rest of us will stay at home cooking. And drinking, hic.

Won't ride, YO is turning out and mucking out first thing then i am going down in the afternoon to bring in and feed all 12. Will give mine some treats, a nice dinner with carrots and things, and go for a lovely hack on Boxing day-hopefully one of those lovely sunny frosty ones!!

im definately riding on xmas day my dad doesnt get up till later so we're not allowed to open presents till he gets up so i'll take my little sister to the yard for about seven muck them both out bed down etc and then go for a nice long hack round the estate just plodding about i hope it snows

This will be my first year with my horse at home on christmas day so i dont really know what i will be doing with regards to routine. Its so exciting i just wish i could ride.

Dont think i'll ride x-mas day as will go up early to muck out as we have liveries we're all muck in and get them all done, think they will stay in tho or a morning t/o. In the evening only me and mum go down and finish off, put to bed all horses as quicker the 2 of us than all liveries and we like to get out once we've have our x-mas meal.
Last yr spend the whole of x-mas eve and day at the yard as one livery got colic and had 2 check him every 2hours. luckly only live 5mins from yard and checked on him through the night to. Hoping this x-mas will be smoother.

Think me and sis will go for a hack boxing day. Going to buy my horses present at Olympia next week

I keep my horse at home, so its not a problem for me. I always ride on Christmas morning, it is so peaceful. First thing, there are NO cars on the roads, it's about the only day of the year this happens.

I would like to but we are always so busy and all over the place so I will wait untill boxing day. But I will go up in the morning and give him his presents

and muck out.

This happened to us last year too! We were the only ones willing to take the poor thing to the vets as the owners were nasty and pikeys! He is very old and only had about 30percent chance of surving the surgery as they had left him so long but he pulled through bless him
smile.gif
Although the vets were considering keeping our lorry as payment as they knew the pony had no insurance but my mum managed to convince them otherwise!

No riding on christmas day....x3 to muck out. We will all be going down as a family late morning after pressie opening ( horses will have double hay the night before)...then home for dinner and I will pop down later to bring in.

Will be out riding on boxing day. Nice quite roads

We have a family walk/ ride on Christmas day morning, usually just round the fields but it gets us all out together in the fresh air... then home for lunch (nice nibbles), relaxing afternoon then I start getting dinner on. We don't eat till about 6pm so I can feed the horses late afternoon and be home to have a drink!

We also don't open presies till after we've eaten so get all day to look forward to opening them.

Didn't always used to do Christmas day like this but I love it now as there is always something to look forward to and it makes it last soooo much longer!

That would be my perfect christimaas day, but non of the other embers of the family wil have it.

Love feeding ned in the morning with all the church bells ringing, hate doing afternoon chores, with a tummy full of turkey and wine !!!!

Christmas morning mulled wine, bacon butties and mince pies down at our yard
smile.gif
, no riding though as we are eating out for Christmas dinner so only time to muck out I'm afriad.

As we don't have kids Christmas Day is great - 'cos we get to have a lie-in! The horses live out 24/7 so once we're up and about we'll go and feed them and give them a carrot or two as their Christmas pressies. I don't usually ride on Christmas Day but am thinking of possibly doing a pub ride this year at lunchtime with OH (the pub's oooh, all of 500 yards away). Then it's off to my folks for dinner, after which we all fall asleep on Mum's sofa/armchairs for the rest of the afternoon.

At some point we wake up, open the presents, then it's back off to feed the gang again. Luckily, as they're living out, and also used to my irregular working hours, I don't have to be strict as to feeding times.

When I finally get home some time in the evening, I might then have a proper alcoholic drink (until that point I am duty driver) before going back to sleep again.

Can you guess how important sleep is to me? I don't usually get enough of it, so the best thing about Christmas for me is the chance of catching up on loads and loads of it!

I won't ride Christmas day but Bob might be going out! Bob's neighbour is going for a hack so his owner said she would put Bob out so I don't have to go up before the children wake up. She has 2 daughters and they all share 1 horse. I said they could take Bob if they liked - that way the girls can have a long ride each!

Will go and muck out and fuss him in the afternoon when Anya is having her sleep.

Won't be riding this year as we have had a set back with his laminitis, so having to go back to square one with turnout time etc never mind riding!
Normally I would ride though as the roads are quiet and the OH likes a lie in!

I rode last year, nice hack down to the beach with OH on foot taking photos!
It was good but this year weather permitting I am going to go for an earlier longer hack just me and my womble. My OH likes a lie in too so he won't miss me to much while i'm doing the horse and riding.
Think we are heading over to his parents for dinner though, so will leave Dolly in with a pile of hay till evening when we get home again then I shall tuck her up in bed with more hay & give her the other half of her Guiness.
I love having my horse on Christmas day, its like I'm a little kid again and I can't quite believe I have my own horse. ( Even though I have had her nearly 9 years)
