Hi all

Right, i know a horse who has started headshaking very badly, out of the blue.

She has gone from a lovely, placid, laid-back, loving mare to one that head shakes badly, causing her to bolt etc. This started in October.

She head shakes in all situations, whether tacked up or loose in the field. She's been investigated by the vets and vets cannot pin point what it is.

After an 'episode' she's drowsy.

Now, this started the day after having her teeth and jabs done, and her owner is wondering if there is a connection.

What we DO know is: it's not pollen or light related. it's not tack related. Horse is sore/tight in poll/neck/jaw area (but this could be cause or effect - from throwing head around).

Other than that, everyone is drawing a blank.

Vets have said teeth are fine, and that it's unrelated to having teeth done.

Owner is getting out a very good EDT to check just in case.

What i would REALLY like to know is if there is anyone else that has heard of this happening before? Either just sudden onset or related to teeth/jabs?

The owner, as you can imagine, is worried sick. So worried that i've asked her permission to post and ask. And she would love any advice/ideas.

Horse is insured for a year, so owner has a few more months left to try as many things as she can...

IDEAS please peeps? I'm SO hoping someone has experienced something similar and it's easy to fix... :( xx

Sorry I can't help with similar experience but would recommend acupuncture. My vet does acupuncture and has certainly made a difference to my IDx (mack muscle wastage, unknown cause and my sister's Appaloosa's neck/poll/shoulder muscle (again cause unknown). Both were becoming/had become dangerous to ride.
I'm not sure how to find an equine acupuncturist but a physio might know. I know human physios sometimes can do acupuncture.
