For years now I have been suffering constant chronic shoulder pain diagnosed as shoulder & rotar cuff impingement. It was 10 years before it was finally thought to be this. I have had 2 ops but this hasn't stopped the continual daily pain. I struggle to work & do pretty much anything. I have had hours of physio & other treatments. GPs don't want to know & won't refer me as I refuse to accept nothing else can be done.
Surely I shouldn't have to put up with this as I don't get any respite at all?
This has been going on since 1995.
Anyone else suffer similar problems?

I did, but have had a successful operation on mine, things that helped was a hot water bottle at night and making sure my shoulder was supported at night. Painkillers mainly ibuprofen, but sometimes paracetemol as well. I also went to see a chiropractor who eased the pain, I also had acupunture, which again eased the pain.

I also joined a gym and did strengthening exercises, which helped with making arm mobile but in all honesty nothing made the pain go away, until it was operated on.

Since the operation I've been riding again (despite registrar saying I shouldn't ride again) and I've also been skiing, I wasnt silly enough to ask about skiing after he said no riding!! It did take some months for my shoulder to be painfree and I did take it very slowly as had been in pain for several years and didnt want to go down that path again, I also did all the physio and then when had the all clear I went to the gym and with the help of a personal trainer gradually got it working again and did controlled exercise to strengthen it.

I also have this, haven't had surgery yet as I'm afraid that it won't work and may even make it worse.
I take 2 X 75mg strength Voltarol tabs a day and try not to do things which I know will exacerbate it.
Its a horrible thing and really impacts on your life. Sorry your surgeries didn't work, haven't really got any useful advice apart from the Voltarol, which makes it bearable for me. Have also tried physio, exercises etc in the past but no real effect.

I damaged mine when i slipped on ice back in 2010, ive had x-rays, physio & its still not right (& they still arent sure whats wrong with it). My pain now extends to my elbow & my hand. I struggle to pick things like mugs up on some days. Ive not bothered going back to the doctors in over a year as the last couple of times i went they didnt seem overly bothered, which is rather off putting to say the least, so ive just muddled on.
Sorry not to be of much help.

I had shoulder pain for years due to various bounces off the ground over the years, i was offered surgery and declined, had physio that didnt help and eventually had deep tissue and remedial sports massages, i think it was a series of 3 sessions and although very sore at the time after each session, a few days later it always felt better. I have now been pain free and only need the occassional massage if i feel ot start to twinge, my shoulders make really lound clunking noisies at times when i do things but no pain :)

I would ask for a referral to a pain clinic as there is so much they can do for chronic pain. My pain is in my lungs/ribs not shoulder but since being referred to the local pain clinic they tried numerous pain killers and alternative therapies until they found something that worked and keep trying new treatments as they become available. Recently they've started using electro neuro modulation on the nerves to reset them so they don't send off pain signals to the brain all the time and it has had an amazing effect on me. If nothing else has worked you should definitely ask for a referral.

Been to pain clinic & they can't do anything else for me at the moment as I have tried several things they have to offer :(
I don't think it helped that I was misdiagnosed & had the wrong treatment including steroid injections to my elbows, neck & shoulders. It was only a fluke that I actually had X-rays taken of my shoulders & the problem was found. I am on very strong painkillers & have been for a while. I have tried alternative treatment such as Bowen & acupuncture etc.
