Pookie has been vomiting quite a bit for the last couple of months (below is a description of the vomit, if you are easily disgusted don't read!).

He is fed in the morning, eats his food with no problems, gets some chews/treats during the day and seems fine all day long (very active and happy). The vomiting happens 3-4 times a week, always overnight. The vomit is clear and a small amount but often includes a solid - this is difficult to describe as I am not too sure what it is. The solid part looks like a slice of raw potato, thinly cut, but is not potato or any other kind of vegetable I can think of (he is not fed raw potatos by the way!). Sometimes it's yellow in colour, sometimes orange. The texture is like something between a raw potato and a piece of plastic, although it has an organic feel to it. He does roam the farm but I haven't seen him eat anything at all, much less anything that looks like this weird thing he vomits. From the evening onwards he is either in the house or in the enclosed garden where there is definitely nothing like the thing he vomits for him to eat (no plastic, half-chewed toys either).

He is up to date with his worming, his tummy is soft, he doesn't react to having his tummy pushed and prodded. I've mentioned the vomiting to the vet, but he wasn't particularly concerned and couldn't find anything wrong with him when examined (did not do bloods or stool sample though at that stage) - at the time neither was I, all the dogs vomit from time to time. However, it now looks like a persistent problem. We'll take him to the vets this week for a more thorough look, but I was wondering if anyone has any ideas, especially on what the weird solid thing might be!

What sort of chews are you giving him? It sounds like he is swallowing large chunks off one or just swallowing the last chunk, which he then can't digest and is yaking up!! Those rawhide chews are really bad at upsetting their stomachs and they go a kind of pasty white when soggy?

No rawhide chews but he does get the Dentastiks. Good idea, thanks I will try cutting those out! All the other treats he gets are tiny little bits of biscuits or similar for training purposes (but really tiny, sort of fingernail size).

I would suggest trying a small meal in the evening. Empty tummies can be a cause of sickness in some dogs of a more sensitive nature! Flora is awful for it, empty tum equals puking bile or clear saliva type stuff everytime for her.
I have also experienced the odd solid thing you describe...no idea what it actually is but she will sometimes bring up something similar sounding. As I say try a small meal before bed.

Could it be hoof trimmings, my dogs have always liked to chew bits of hoof after the farrier has been and sometimes vomit up bits of it if they can't digest it.
