Email from the Chairman this morning:

The Boxing Day meet will go ahead from The Unicorn, 102 Adlington Road,

Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9 2LN, as planned.

The weather forecasters have predicted a thaw over the next two days and the Masters have also made inspections of the lines and found the ground underneath the snow to be soft.

We therefore hope you will come and join us for the traditional Christmas meet.

Merry Christmas to you all!!!

Steve Evason, Hunt Chairman

So if yours is off and you are within travel distance - give us a ring and come and join us. I think the cap is £40 for visitors. The meet is an easy distance from the M60, M56 and M6

Gosh, that surprises me. We're not that far away and we don't have snow but we do have frozen ground.

I hope the thaw comes, but looking at our forecast, I can't see it.

Sorry guys :-(((( I must admit I was cock a hoop when I got the email. Then I spent an hour clearing my own yard so that we can get off onto the road, and am now hoping against hope that the 1/4 mile of very steep lane between me and the main road stay clear between now and Saturday morning. My nerves are completely frazzled by ferrying water around, not being able to ride, having only an old pickup which will manage the icy hill and if I don't get a blast on Boxing Day you wouldn't want to be anywhere near me!

Salimali the explanation for the lack of gritting (my road too, first time in 19 years there has been no grit) is that the Councils have implemented a 3 category system and only category 1 get properly treated. We are category 2, scraped but no grit (because we are very hilly and remote and need to drive to get anywhere at all, shops, schools etc) and category 3 get nowt.

cp, my commenton the gritters was a sarcastic joke. we never get gritted until the problem has virtually gone- got used to it now, but our yard (100 yards from the road) is sheet ice now, horses haven't been ridden for a week although they've been allowed into their field, so signs are not good for saturday. it seems we are much in the same sorry situation!!

I feel so angry that they have gritted us for 19 years we've been here and then suddenly stopped. I'm not sure if it's worse to never have been done, or to have our expectations dashed - neither are good! Still, I guess with a trillion or so of UK debt to pay back at some point in the future, they have to start cutting back somewhere - wish it wasn't my road! Can't they just chuck a few orphans out onto the streets and save money that way???

Hi all,
with regard to road gritting, i suggest that we all ask how much Jeremy Taylor (chief exec of demised Cheshire County Council) was paid on its demise. It was no insubstantial amount, let's be clear on that.
I trust that this very substantial amount of tax-payers' finance, along with his pension, are available for public viewing?
The roads in West Cheshire have been well gritted this year, from my own experience, so thanks West Cheshire.
But we are daft if we don't ask more questions, when we're paying the bills.
BS x

I hope no-one else went, ,like I did! It has been postponed until Monday due to a totally iced up pub carpark. Everywhere else was ice free - what a pain!!

Oooops!

Ours is on tomorrow, but on foot. We meet at The Horseshoe at Tilstock to do the first leg with the hounds and puppies before heading back to the pub for Hot Pot and chips.
