After a v. frustrating break of 2 1/2 years from competing, i got my butt in gear and took new mare to a little dressage comp today. she only had her teeth done last tuesday, so haven't been able to do much schooling (didn't want to ask any questions of her till i knew her teeth were right, and they were totally appalling, so she's still getting used to the new feel of her mouth anyway.)
So, with no real expectations, because she still gets tense and zooms off (typical ex-racehorse i guess), and a week ago we were still swanning around with her head stuck in the air, i took her to do 2 unaff tests at The College of West Anglia in Wisbech.
Bless her, she really held it together, stayed calm, let me ride her, relaxed into a nice contact and outline, didn't spook at all... and won the first (walk and trot) test on 75.2%, and then was third in the far more exciting Prelim 1 (we get to canter... off we whizz then, yippee!!) with 67.4%.
So chuffed with her. We got some really nice comments from the judges, so i am really optimistic about her dressage panning out eventually now.

cookies if you got this far!

i am SO happy with her... thanks guys. she actually went better in the tests than she warmed up, never ever had one do that before!
i am completely converted to tbs now... she tries so hard and improves every time i ride her. i've not had many horses i could say that of!
well done daisychain, great fun taking these green ones to their first comps, isn't it!
oh, and Miller's OH went too, and his nutcase mare held it together and was very calm and rideable, to his total amazement, so BIG result there too. Miller took her posh lad for the ride, and just warmed him up, and he was a really good boy too.

We had a great day - OH really chuffed with his mare who does get a little over excited - he's been once before a couple of years ago and she reared over backwards with him and he ended up in casualty after some horses were led towards her - luckily nothing damaged but bruised in spectacular fashion from just under ribs to ankles! We went over to Kerilli's last weekend so he could have a lesson/play around in a different environment and then in at the deepend yesterday.

He was so happy with her in the warmup - she was tense for the first 5 mins or so but relaxed and worked almost as well as she has at home - he wasn't expecting any outline whatsoever.

She did get very tense in the arena as she's never been indoors before and she'd lost her boyfriend (I was right outside door so she didn't feel too left

)

She did the walk and trot test only and he was extremely please that she did what she was supposed to do where she was meant to do it.

Judges comment was extremely nice and he ended up on 49.2% - he hadn't expected to stay on and get into the arena.

He's so please he wants to know what we're doing next weekend

My lad went for a potter round and to play chaperone and was his usual well mannered self (apart from walking over a metal grate

Kerilli's mare was a sweatheart all day bless her - that was the first time I'd seen her under saddle.

We're nippign over to Kerilli's tonight as her OH kindly video's my OH's test - apparently he doesn't look too scared
