After a v. frustrating break of 2 1/2 years from competing, i got my butt in gear and took new mare to a little dressage comp today. she only had her teeth done last tuesday, so haven't been able to do much schooling (didn't want to ask any questions of her till i knew her teeth were right, and they were totally appalling, so she's still getting used to the new feel of her mouth anyway.)
So, with no real expectations, because she still gets tense and zooms off (typical ex-racehorse i guess), and a week ago we were still swanning around with her head stuck in the air, i took her to do 2 unaff tests at The College of West Anglia in Wisbech.
Bless her, she really held it together, stayed calm, let me ride her, relaxed into a nice contact and outline, didn't spook at all... and won the first (walk and trot) test on 75.2%, and then was third in the far more exciting Prelim 1 (we get to canter... off we whizz then, yippee!!) with 67.4%.
So chuffed with her. We got some really nice comments from the judges, so i am really optimistic about her dressage panning out eventually now.
cookies if you got this far!
