Cider vinegar - how much would you use as supplement in feed? Interested in using it as it is purported to alleviate mild itching and also help prevention of calcium around joints. Has anyone used it and did it seem to work? (Might take it for my own joints if it does!) Thanks

I've had my arthritic cob on it for about a month now, she LOVES it!! It has a very strong smell but she certainly seems to enjoy it, don't know if it's helping much with her joints (although the perforamnce i had trying to get cream on her nose yesterday with her cantering and bucking round field!!) as she is on other stuff as well. I don't measure it but just give her a couple of good glugs. Will def keep her on it as she likes it so much and even i'm getting addicted to smell (don't think i'd drink it though) xxx

seems to work ok for my boy-although recenty he has got stiffer. I give a good glug per feed. I know lots of people who take it as well, but you have to dilute it or something so its not so acidic on your teeth

I buy 25litres for £37.50! I also take it myself in water with a slice of lemon either hot or cold! Skin & nails are in great nick very refreshing too!

Horses
Add 60ml to each feed mixed with either grain, hay or other feed. Usually your horse will let you know the taste is different the first few times, after this they seem to crave the taste. Some people add honey to the ACV to help with the taste. Should your horse develop an internal infection increase the amount gradually to a MAXIMUM of 180ml per day reduce once infection clears.
ACV can be sprayed on to your horse as a fly repellent dilute with an equal amount of water.
ACV is a well-known food supplement, water purifier and natural antibiotic, made of whole red sweet apples, rich in minerals and trace elements.
The ACV you see in the shops is clear as it has been pasteurised to remove the impurities and make it look better.
Natural ACV is Non-pasteurised so it is literally alive. It looks cloudy as it contains the "mother" the cobweb like substance, which grows naturally on the surface. The gel like substance is the pectin, which is found naturally in apples. These are what gives it all the health benefits. No known pathogens can survive in raw ACV.
The Encyclopaedia of Natural Pet Care describes Apple Cider Vinegar in this way:
"Long a folk remedy, cider vinegar has been shown to improve the health of dairy cows, horses dogs and other animals. It reduces common infections, aids birthing, improves stamina, prevents muscle fatigue after exercise, increases resistance to disease and protects against food poisoning. Cider vinegar is rich in vitamins, minerals and trace elements found in apples, especially potassium. It normalises acid levels pH in the stomach, improving digestion and the assimilation of nutrients, reduces intestinal and faecal odours, help cure constipation, alleviates some of the symptoms of arthritis and helps prevent bladder stones and urinary tract infections. A healthy animal with the addition of it to the diet will noticeably resist insect and parasite problems, grow shinier and more easily managed coat and increase endurance and energy levels."
Benefits
Since early times raw, natural ACV has been known as "Mother natures perfect food". ACV contains acetic acid; an undissociated weak organic acid that acts by disrupting the energy, sustenance and transport systems of aggressive bacteria and microorganisms. Harmful organisms thrive in weakly acidic or mildly alkaline conditions. You can be confident that through regular use of ACV your stock will be able to cope with the demands of intensive farming and production. It is also believed to help correct deficiencies that are the result of poor nutrition. It supports natural body functions and is ideal for preventing illnesses. ACV contains Malic Acid which improves the digestive process and stimulates the animals appetite by buffering the pH in the gut. ACV targets infections by purifying the blood and allowing the animals natural defence system to fight back.
Nutritional Information
ACV contains 19 of 22 minerals essential for maintenance, growth & repair in the body, it provides enzymes and important minerals, such as potassium, calcium, magnesium, sulphur, chlorine, phosphorous, iron, silicon, sodium, fluorine and other trace minerals. In fact it contains 93 different components. The vitamins contained in ACV are bioflavonoids (vitamin P), beta-carotene (precursor to vitamin A), vitamin C, E, B1, B2 and B6. Tannins from the crushed cell walls of fresh apples as well as malic acid, tartaric acid, propionic acid, acetic acid and pectin and other powerful nutrients which are very important in fighting body toxins, purifying the cells and ridding the body of poisons.
ACV is believed to help with the following:
Fighting infections
Arthritis/hip displasia
Metabolism / weight
Purifying cells
Constipation/scouring
Muscle cramp
Kidney failure/urinary tract infections/bladder stones
Coat condition/skin problems/itching/ringworm
Fertility /birthing / vitality of offspring
Mastitis/cell counts
Immune system
Insect / parasites problems, changes blood chemistry
Helps eliminate the need for antibiotics
A great tonic to use while animals are ill or convalescing
Blood pressure/cardiovascular
Digestion
Chronic fatigue
Relieve insect stings and bites
Stiffness
Stamina / endurance
Hundreds of farmers and animal owners swear by ACV and use it for a variety of reasons. We challenge you to use a source of raw, Natural Apple Cider Vinegar added to your animals diet and track the difference in health. It can be given to any animal as a daily feed, or as a health tonic and detox with drinking water to boost the immune system. ACV can be mixed into the animal’s daily feed or given as a drench especially if the animal is off its food. When drenching you may dilute the ACV with an equal amount of water.
Do not use metal bowls (stainless steel is fine) as the ACV will corrode them.

k9h that's really interesting, thanks for the info. I use it every day to help my boy's stiffness but never realised it did so many other things as well. By the way have you ever used it as a fly repellent?

Hi Bertie_Boo. Yes I have used it as a fly repellent with some good results.
As I said I am also drinking it as I read somewhere that it is good for weight loss!! So I'm drinking loads & natural the result is that I am peeing loads! So whether this is the weight loss as I have no water in me!????..
Have used it on dry bits of skin to or flaky skin & sorts it in no time when applied topically as it is a astringent.

I've heard of lots of people drinking it, good luck with the weight loss. I'm going to give it a try as a fly repellent as I'm currently using something which costs me a fortune as I get through a bottle a week. Thanks again.

NAF's ACV could be weaker than the stuff I get which is why you may have to feed more plus what I get is unfiltered or pasturised dont know if NAFs is? Go off the instructions you get with what you buy.
