Cimetidine (afaik) is mainly for gastic ulcers, however a very select few studies show its use for melanomas too. Ive read somewhere that is it allowed for horses, although never known anyone to take it (except my grandpa!)
Ive ordered a months worth to begin with to see whether it'll help with Gems melanomas.
There's no proof it works. I met someone who does use it with hteir horse. It didn't make them better, but it slowed down the growth, although as he said you don't know what would have happened without.
However the volume of tablets he had to give it was costing £10 a day!!!!
Ouch! Not cheap, i think i worked out from a journal i read that Gem would be getting fed approx £60 worth a month.
Id be happy if it slowed the growth, theyre not growing mega fast now but they are growing slowly and any opportunity to slow/stop the growth or maybe even at best reduce the lumps, id be happy to fund it for aslong as she stands on this planet and would rather do that than save up for another horse (for when i finish uni) since i already have her and she is my prime concern at the moment.
Thanks, to you both, im now just waiting for the call from the vet to say that theyve got it in so she can start the course.
