I read in one of Jenny Pitman's books that she had to use a citation bit on a really hard puller. She said it was a last resort and, fortunately, it worked.

So, what is a citation, please?

basically a racing bridle designed in the states for a champion horse called citation. he was a machine but mean with it. there is a good digramatical picture in elwin hartley edwards Saddlery book. it has been somewhat superceeded by the various combination bit/ noseband things like the myler system but Murphy Himself wore one i think though there is a similar sort of thing called a rockwell which his might have been and yes you can stop the proverbial train in one!

Thanks for that. At least now, Kildalton & I will know what it is in future. I went to Gibson's website and the picture shows it very clearly. I does sound pretty severe - handy to know that they do work, just in case!

Thanks, again.
