hi

have tried 5ml in 500ml of water as fly spray

how often do you re apply as it didnt last all day, and do you find it effective as at first it was, then as the day progressed, we started getting swishy tails and bitey bellies

Try this mix - lasts for a good length of time

Fly Repellant Mix
15ml Citronella
2 Tbs Meths
1 Tbs Dishwashing Liquid
4 Tbs Vinegar
250ml strong Black tea
Add to 2 ltrs Water
Store in a Spray bottle

Im using:
10ml citronella oil
1tbs washing up liquid
1tbs white wine vinegar
Add to 1ltr water in a spray bottle

We don't have too many flies at the moment but do have a lot of mosquitoes and this seems to be working very well so far.

i thought so about oil and water, so give it a shake, and went from a thread here saying water molecules helped make it stronger

it certainly smells, but i dont want to be wasting time, deet works but its a bit dangerous for my liking (unless others disagree?)

im looking for as few ingredients as poss really but ill try some of the above certainly, just dont want to put tons of oils in, effective cheap and cheerful is what we need

thanks for replies so far :)

Ha ha, I heard that different flies get deterred by different things, so this is my Summer Fly Spray mixture ....

Avon Skin So Soft
Cider Vinegar
Cold Black Tea
Eucalyptus Oil
Citronella Oil
Lavender Oil
Tea Tree Oil

Am I missing anything!!

see, im looking for one thats effective but nowhere nr that many ingredients really and defo not that many oils

ive read the sticky and thats where i started with the citronella in water, but any other ideas or proven to work recipes would be cracking

I use one bottle Avon Skin so soft & fresh bath oil/dry oil
3 caps dettol
one tablesppoon citronella oil
one of eucalyptus
one of lavender
one of tea tree
one of cederwood atlas

put in one litre bottle, top up with water or cold tea.

Shake before use.

Just read that you want less ingrediants but this really works. You can get the avon stuff on special offer for £2 a bottle.

The oils I got online and were between £1.15 and £1.75 per bottle. I haven;t got anywhere near using even 1/4 of a bottle of each, and used them all last year and this on three horses.

Try this, works for me
