CKC Spaniel with sore bottom

Hi every1, my CKC has woken up today with a sore bottom. He is a real wimp but even to have a look caused him real upset-lots of screaming

The area is quite dry and a little dirty, I am not sure if it is his anal glands causing the discomfort. They are regularly cleaned by groomer but not sure if to take to the vet? My friend suggested trying Califig supplement as he could just be constipated?

Any1 else have any tips I could try before heading to vet?

You need to go to the vet. Cavaliers appear to be prone to anal gland abscesses even if their anal glands are emptied regularly - not very nice for you or them

I agree, they do commonly have anal gland issues, he could have been rubbing it across the ground as a result of them being infected, impacted or full which makes it very sore.
A good way to get the dry faeces off is the bathe the area, or just have him sit in a warm bath as it saves you having to brush/pull or cut the hair from the area which will make him squirm and yelp and wriggle around.
If you cannot see him passing faeces or he is straining he needs to see the vet asap as this will be very painful.
