Clarendon Boots?

I have really struggled to find some boots that really fit my cob Bodey well (they seem to slip down even when done up tight), and someone has suggested Clarendon Boots.

So what do people think of them, are they worth the money?

I want them for general jumping and XC, so which ones should I go for?

Or any other suggestions of boot make? I have the Premier Equine sport boots at the moment, but even they slip.

I personally hate PE boots, I have a pair and think they're cr@p. I have heard good and bad about claredons as they don't let grit in, but they do heat up the tendons, not sure on the fit though-sorry. I have WoofWear pros which I really like and if I had the money I'd get the tri-zone or NEW.
 
i use clarendon boots on my cob and they fit like a dream and dont move.just make sure they the ones with the hook and eye fastening as the ones with just velcro tend to pop undone esp on chunky cob legs!x
 
The thorogood boots are really good as they are made for horse type - I have the tb ones as I have a horse with pipe cleaner legs

but I am sure they do warmblood and cob versions as well

I had clarendons on my pony for 10 years - absolutely loved them!! If I could afford to upgrade to bigger ones for new horse then I would do! Second the suggestion to get the hook fastened ones too!
 
Loathe them think they are a waste of time and money. They do nothing terribly well. They are easy to overtighten, heat the legs up and have no tendon protection.

What would you suggest instead then?
 
Do tendon boots stay where they are supposed to? I would just go with those for the time being in front as he is careful. I am guessing the issue is that he has quite solid joints that are a similar size to the fetlock? Did you try fluffy NEW boots? I use them for hunting a MW horse and they work well as you can tighten them better. Maybe just ordinary hind boots with tendons on front.
 
I tried tendon boots too, but can’t remember the make of the top of my head. The slipped down too. No I didn’t try the fluffy NEW boots, just the neoprene ones, I’ll have a look at those. He is careful but he occasionally puts in a big one when we get it wrong, which he did yesterday and now has a nice over reach.

No I haven’t, I tried just bandages but that didn’t work. Thanks I will go and have a search.

Thanks Bob_Rob_n_Tiff, I use to have some of those on my pony and really liked them. I will have a look at those, and just have to keep Bodey’s legs clipped really well.
 
A quick thought - do you think the boots are slipping because his legs are clipped?

I say this because my Welsh x TB gets hairy winter legs. When I clip his legs out in the winter I have to be careful which boots I put on him until the hair grows back a bit or they slip. It was actually Clarendon's which slipped the worst, I use double lock Woof brushing boots in front and NEW brushing boots (the cheapest ones!) behind when he has just been clipped. I have no problems in the summer / when he has hairy legs!

I think it was in comp riders a while ago someone was asking about bandaging for XC as her cobs legs were clipped out and it meant that boots slipped.
 
I have used clarendon boots on my TB X and my Cob and find that they havent slipped on either, they both have clipped legs in the winter. However I have hunted the cob in the double lock WW brushing boots and they didnt slip either.
 
Love Clarendon boots! Bought a set 10 years ago and they are still going strong, and still look great. They have been used on 3 different horses, ranging from a 15.1hh cob with lots of bone to a 16.2hh m/w, and fitted perfectly. Also have their tendon boots. Good luck!

The clarendons hunter boots with clips are fab, I've had them for yrs on my cob with no slippage etc.
However the schooling boots without the clips are rubbish, my sister bought a set for her boy, and he's always loosing one, she cleans the velcro daily, and they still come off, this is only schooling / lunging in the arena, I certianly wouldnt jump in them
 
I've used Clarendon boots for years, they don't slip and look smart without the need to tape for XC.

I've now switched to the ones with Neoprene linings rather than 'fake sheepskin' as they don't make the legs sweat as much.
