Anyone ever had a pony who is as good as gold for everyone under the sun except his intended rider?
Our aged loan pony, and our older daughter, just do not seem able to hit it off! He is the only pony in the world she is mortally terrified of, and she is the only person in the world he continually tries to deck!
We are all loathe to send him back - she adores and worships him on the ground! - he's getting regular exercise being as good as gold for everyone else, and she's happily pottering around on my cob, looking like a pea on a piano ....
.... shall I hypnotise them both? Give in and buy them a carrot stick? Any other bright ideas?

when i was a kid at riding school, i had a similar situation with a little grey pony. he wasn't a terror (i was happy as anything on the notoriously tricky ponies), in fact he was good as gold with everyone but me. i was frightened of him, and he seemed to hate me (i'd never done anything to him!), and when i rode him (after huge tears and tantrums), he bucked me off 3 times running... they never forced me to ride him again.
many years later i met him again, and he put his ears back straight away and tried to bite me. definite clash of personalities, i have no idea why, but incurable in that case i think! nobody could ever understand it, least of all the yard owner or me.
sorry, probably not what you want to hear! i'd keep them apart... plenty of other ponies in the world.

we had a grade a showjumper that only liked being ridden by men. she was ok with my daughter for the first 3 months then they clashed not badly but when i put a man on her she went like a dream for him. i was lucky enought to sell her to a man

I bought a show jumper several years ago - amazingly well bred, amazing tallent, amazing to look at, amazing to handle....AMAZING B**CH to ride LOL we just hated each other with a passion for some reason!! Nothing ever really happened between us we just didn't hit it off at all!
My friend took on the ride and she was a super star

When my friend gave up riding to have a family I was going to sell her but my mother-in-law fell in love with her, she is now a happy hacker

I also have a 6yr old gelding my OH bought for for me 3yrs ago - dear, darling boy but we just don't click, I have been struggling for the past 18month about whether to sell him or not, its a tough decision because he is everything I need but not what I want personality wise.....

I figure its like people, we don't all like everyone we meet, often for no apparent reason sometimes we just don't like someone....
