Having read some recent posts on this subject could anyone explain the differences between Sylvia Loch and Heather Moffett. Also where does Mary Wanless and ride with your mind fit into the scheme of things? I'm interested in going down one of these routes and wasn't sure which one would suit me best. Are they mutually exclusive?
Any advice on how best to start and recommendations of instructors in wiltshire would be appreciated.

I'm afraid I don't really know Heather Moffet's nor Mary Wanless' teachings to comment on them. My interpretation of Classical Dsg / Sylvia Loch's teachings is that the emphasis is on the correct position of the rider, which will then allow the horse to achieve self carriage. Nothing is forced, rather the horse is encouraged to work correctly. However it is important to mention two things; 1) the horse is never asked to work beyond it's level until it is physically and mentally ready to do so and 2)whilst I say it is about encouraging the horse it is certainly not about being a soft touch. True classically trained horses are extremely disciplined creatures.
I am trying to follow the classical principles, and find it very demanding as you as the rider have to be extremely disciplined with yourself in achieving the correct position and to not to take shortcuts with yourself or the horses training. However the flipside is that when it clicks it is very rewarding.

just from reading magazine articles and what i've come acoss on the internet, sylvia loch makes more sense.

HM and MW make it far more complicated than they need to and it's complicated enough without that

Id say completely the opposite. having had experience of both Heather and Mary over the years I find Heathers methods very much more 'obvious' although both 'work'.

I suspect a lot depends on how your mind works as to who you click with.
