Treated myself to a pair of these when someone on here posted a thread about them being in a sale and I love them. Thing is, I bought them to wear at the yard but everywhere is so wet and muddy at the mo Im scared to wear them in case I ruin them. Im most worried about where they lace up, what happens if you get mud and water in through the laces, can you still get them clean? Whats the best way to keep them looking OK ish, OK enough to go to tescos in. At the moment the water and mud are splashing up to my calves so they are going to get pretty grotty, pretty quick. Are they really suitable to wear in these conditions?

mine are holding up fine to this :)

I clean the leather bits as normal, and brush the suede with a stiff brush when the mud is dry, brushes off fine :)

That's the dilemma with new boots. You're either going to wear them as yard boots, or you're not. But if you bought them for comfort and to live in and max out the value, then you're better off wearing them up the yard and not being too precious about them.

Having said that, if mine were brand new I'd be waiting for the ground to freeze or dry out, and would wear wellies in the meantime!

My Grasmeres are a few years old now, and beginning to crack. I occasionally give them a good clean and wax the leather bits with Ariat Mallard wax.

At the end of my yard duties, when they are usually caked in mud and poo, I just hose them off. That's good enough to go to Tesco as far as I'm concerned!

This ^^^ plus I bought some Nikwax stuff

which keeps them really easy to clean off, when that runs out i think i'm going to invest in one of these:

I also got mine in the sale (although it was the Tower Farm sale rather then Derby House) and I love them, so worth the money!!

I wear mine daily, through mud, riding, mucking out have even worn them when walking dogs down the beach. I just hose them off and once a month I rub the leather balm over them, had this free because checkout girl didnt put it through till :D. Still look new :)

I got mine at the same time as you I think, I hose mine off each time I take them home, and currently saddle soap them and then leather treat them (with some stubben stuff I have) about once a week. I probably only wear them 3-4 times a week for a few hours max though.

They have revolutionised my riding though - no more cold toes! I need to go to Homebase today to buy some cheapy wellies, I don't trust that expensive ones these days, so I buy a pair for £10 and if they die in less than a year then its no bother :)

Nikwax products are great. The original wax in a tin for the leather bits and then the suede and nubuck stuff for the suede.
