I was the lucky recipient of a beautiful made to measure hunt coat this year... To soften the blow of turning 40!! it is now typically covered in mud and slobber and was hoping for some recommendations as to what is the best brush to clean it with, I am currently using a dandy brush but I thing this is too harsh and will wear the fibres apart. I saw one i think in h and h a few weeks ago but I can't remember who made it it was Fairly expensive but probably worth it to preserve this once in a lifetime garment. Thanks.

The Field recommended this one. I intend to purchase one as like you do not wish to trash my new coat with a standard dandy brush!

Michael Clayton has the following to say:

If coat covered in clinging mud, hang coat up, hose with cold water and brush with stiff brush. If just suffering from mud splashes then allow to dry and then brush off. If you rely on dry brushing every time and never wash it you run the risk of removing the nap.

I use a fairly soft antique one which is brill. To clean my coat I let it dry and then dampen it well. I use a plant spray bottle and then brush off the mud and then let it dry naturally and that way it doesn't raise the knap.
