im competing at the weekend and my mare is filthy( has been since changing of coats) and im only half clipping her 2moro, ill obviously give her a good groom and will be washing mane and tail, but just wondered if you have any extra special grooming tips!! shes not overly hairy its just that time of year!! iv heard that if u get really nice hot water and a cloth and then just got the cloth damp and scrubbed round and round to lift off as much dirt as possible....any tips would be welcomed!!!

ul neva guess wat fran, went 2 get sicco in and he is the filthiest i have ever seen a horse, and i mean filthy
its disguisting, i need tips aswell please anyone lol

I use vinegar too. Added to a bucket of hot water. Scrub the coat with a towel wringed out. I use the white (clear) vinegar on my greys and the malt on my black horse as it makes him super shiny, especially when he's clipped and looks all dusty.

Ive heard people use Meths in hot water too.
 
Quick question! Does the vinegar smell linger? :P

I hot cloth almost daily to remove stains and have always used water with a small amount of savlon and tea tree oil but the vinegar idea is intriguing me!

as hot as you cant cope with water with a drop of dettol and a towel do it regular after work removes the grease and leaves them with a shiny coat
 
Nope cos your not putting loads on!! The vinegar helps dissolve the grease! But water has to be seriously hot, think of the hot towel treatments you get, steaming water, but not burning!!!

Small cap of dettol and super hot water, dunk that teatowel, wring it out so nearly dry and scrub! Et voila, super shiney horsey!
(if the waters too hot try wearing some marigolds)
 
Hi before I clip my horses I use the hoover on them and they come up lovely and shiney and brilliantly clean. It also cuts the clipping time in half and the blades last longer
 
my horses are used to being clipped so thought I'd try a hoover. I have an old cyclinder house hold hoover a lot cheaper than an equine hoover. Jumped a little bit when I first started but now leave them loose in their stables and they just stand and let me hoover them. It is amazing the amount of dirt and scurf that gets picked up. Leaves the horses amazingly shiney and spotlessly clean right down to the skin. I can run a bablywipe over them and it stays clean without a bit of dust.
Everybody at my yard thinks I am crazy but they always comment on how clean and shiney my horses are.
 
I honestly thought you meant one off them posh horse hoover thingys!!! Wow what a great idea, mind you my horse would absolutely freak if I went near him with one.
