Having spent much of today with a pressure washer (due to foal with virus) the inside of the lorry and the stable are wet, and I am none to dry either. It isn't important that they are dry right away as the foal isn't home from the vets for at least 24 hours.

But, since the lorry was more than due for a scrub out, because I shirk away from it, I did wonder if a steam clean from time to time would be a good idea, not take too long, and not get everything sopping wet either. Me included.

Do all you saintly people wash your lorries out frequently, has anyone ever used a steam cleaner? The idea also appeals for the stables which could be done even in winter.

our lorry gets used very regularly so is steam cleaned about every other month. but it is all treated and water resistant as it would crumble otherwise. as for the stables they get done every 6 month and painted every year. it helps keep the yard clean and am sure aids in stopping our horses and ponies picking anything bad up. it also helps keep the yard looking fresh and encourages any new livery's if it does look neat and tidy.

I have an industrial steam cleaner (dry steam) does variety of jobs/surfaces and kills all the bacteria and smells, great for a house with 3 dogs!
Wouldn't be without it and yes, I'd use it on a lorry and stable too, Oz :)

Ah, dry steam, now that's interesting. My OH pointed out that steam = hot water, which it does, but the sheer amount of water from the pressure washer can't add up to a steamer. But dry steam sounds even better!
The stables are painted every year, but I do find the paint wears off in areas where the haynets swing as they eat, or where water buckets hang etc. I'm aiming for something that doesn't affect the paintwork, although I reckon I need better paint than Masonry paint.

my lorry is cleaned out and wiped down each time i use it. usely with virkon e. you can add virkon e into the pressure washer. kills most bugs! stables can be washed down with virkon e to kill bugs. doesnt need to be rinsed off.

You can use a dry steam cleaner on paintwork, just don't linger over it for too long or it will melt it!
You can even use it on leather sofas (very quick pass with steam head) common sense will tell you how much heat something can take before you damage it!
Oz :)

Oz, could you perhaps find a link to the dry steamer that you have? Probably way OTT for my use, but worthy of a look.

I sprayed the Virkon all over the stable once it had dried enough, the lorry gets done tomorrow. :)

My Halo is glowing!

I clean & wash out my truck whenever it's been used. It takes so little time as the dung doesn't get a chance to harden. When I first bought it I had to take a sander to the walls - they obviously didn't clean it much and had painted over the dung! gross!

Where they are tied up is sprayed with antibacterial stuff and then rinsed clean.

My truck is my 'precious'
