Just wondering what everyone else does.

We have rubber matting which has little legs underneath so the pee runs to a point in the stable and then out through a drain. I empy the stables about once a month and disinfect under the mats and on top. I also tip a bucket of water under the back each day to wash the worst of the pee out. I use Virodene disinfectant and the stables don't smell at all.

Do you disinfect / clean under you mats? What products do you use? How often do you clean them?

I take my mats out once a year and scrub with hot soapy water.Jet wash out stable and disinfect with jayes fluid.Leave to dry then put mats back in.I also use stablezone when it gets really smelly and wet.

My mats are butted up close together & with the fall on the stable floor the pee drains away pretty much. Occasionally I wash the mats off using water & jeyes fluid but I only actually lift the mats once a year to give the stable a clean. The stable always smells good & I don't need to wsh out any more frequently.

i have flat mats without a gap underneath, and a perfectly flat floor, no drainage... unfortunately, that's just the way the floor was done before i bought the place.
i use cardboard bedding on top, a decent depth to about 1/3 way forward from the back of the stable, and that absorbs almost all of the wet. i muck out as often as possible, wet as well as droppings, probably 4-6 times a day. i disinfect the wet parts on top occasionally but i never lift the mats, and it doesn't smell at all. the smell-making bacteria need oxygen to flourish, so as long as i don't lift the mats, it doesn't smell at all.

I don't have drainage under my mats either and they don't smell either. Big muck out in the morning, and skip out in the evening - when Star is having room service that is.

Incidentally, mine aren't 'true' stable mats - they are lengths of very heavy duty conveyor belt (from a brick yard), but they do the job.

4-6 times a day?

i can't bear the sight (or the smell!) of horses standing in dirty beds. i don't mind dirty horses, a bit of mud is fine, and i don't try to keep absolutely everything immaculate all the time, but stinky pooey beds make me really angry!
